STRESS CREPT ON YOU LIKE A GHOST, TAKING YOU BY SURPRISE. Skylar and her family knew this better than anyone. Back in Florida, her parent's hearts would drop whenever their phone rang and the school was on the other side. The only thoughts flowing through their minds would be the overthinking of Skylar having a seizure. Every time she would be transmitted to the hospital, there was a deepened fear and stress that Skylar would have to say her goodbyes.
Stress was an emotion that couldn't be held in someone for long until they explode. How they released it was a whole list, such as aggression, lashing out, anxiety and other factors that negatively impacted mental illness. Skylar would be overwhelmed at times when she thought about her condition and the risks involved. But her family was the victim of the immense stress that came with medical bills and the health of Skylar Holten.
Audrey Holten stepped up to being the person who worried the most. She was the mother of Skylar after all. When Audrey had been told about her daughter's diagnosed epilepsy and having to spend days after nights in the hospital, she'd cry when everyone was asleep. Skylar remembered a time when she couldn't fall asleep because she had spent the whole day sleeping after taking her medication and overheard her mother's cries.
The redhead felt guilty about it all. It was out of her control but it didn't stop the feeling of needles pricking at her heartstrings and the guilt-ridden. At the age of fourteen, Skylar hated herself for the impact she left on her family. She hated herself because of the stress that came with the expensive medical bills. She hated herself because she couldn't even help herself, so how was she supposed to help her family?
Because of the stress and overthinking, Skylar was limited in the things she could do in life. There were reasonable ones: not driving, no swimming ( especially in deep water and unsupervised) and alcohol. Some were built on the feeling that something could go wrong. Such as, for the longest time, Skylar was restricted from going out. The redhead understood but found it excessive and expressed it to her parents.
