Prologue

Her kingdom was breaking.

Her subjects crushed.

Her eggs smashed.

She was to blame.

She would die.

Chapter one

Lucas woke up with a start. It seemed like just yesterday the elevator doors opened to the surface and humanity was restored. But it had been 2 weeks since. He still had scars from the fight. He shuddered at the thought of the baby creature.

He couldn't stay in bed all day.

He got up and walked over to the window and looked out into the front of the building. Cinder and T.K. were helping the people with their homes. Lucas and Tristan had gone and gotten building supplies and had started working on houses for humanity.

Lucas got his working clothes on and headed for the stairwell. He hurried down the stairs and walked into the lobby to get some food. He was greeted by nagiti and the puppers. He grabbed some toast and an apple. And he went outside and walked over to where Tristan was."Want some toast?" he asked.

Tristan shook his head and continued measuring the board he was working on. When Lucas was finished with his breakfast he helped Tristan with the frame of a wall. They got a lot of work done and had three wall frames by the time Cinder walked over.

"Time for lunch!" she said. "We're coming", Lucas replied. Lucas put down the circular saw and grabbed his apple and started walking towards the building. When he was at the door he heard Tristan yell his name. He turned around and saw what Tristan needed. There was a man walking to the apartment. His clothes ragged, his face dirty. Tristan was standing still about 5 feet from the man. The man stopped and murmured "Help." and fell down.

Chapter 2

Lucas ran to the man and Tristan was already at his side. Cinder was right behind Lucas and had just reached the man as well. They both supported the man and they helped him to a seat. They got him a glass of water and they watched him as he drank, they were able to get a better look at his clothes.

They were ragged, torn, and dirty. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans, and brown work boots. There were holes in his jeans around his knees, and near his boots. His t-shirt was stained with what looked like oil, and had dirt and holes in it. The outsoles of his work boots were starting to come off and detach from the bottom of the shoe. The name tag on his shirt said Bob.

He looked tired, and worn out. Tristan, Cinder, and Lucas didn't talk to him at all, but let him drink. After a few seconds of awkwardness, listening to Bob drink, he set the glass down on his seat, and he looked at the teens. They were staring at him anxiously as if they feared that he would explode or do something scary. Instead, he looked at each of them individually, and said, "Thank you." They all continued to look at him until he finally said, "Do you guys have anything to eat?" Cinder replied, "Yes. Yes we do, I'll bring you some." She went inside to find some food for Bob. They had consumed the majority of it and were starting to run short on it.

"Let's get you to bed and you can tell us all about it tomorrow." Cinder said. They helped Bob into the building and got him on a cot. They worked some more and then they ate dinner and got into bed. T.K.,Cinder,and Lucas got into bed. After a while Lucas heard something on the lower floor.

He got up to check it out. As he was walking through the rows of cots he heard his name and he turned around.

The man in the suit was there. With a dart in his hand. "Hello Lucas," he growled.
