"Come on, Gumball!" I stomped my foot while crossing my arms at the sticky prince. "You can't spend your entire eighteenth flubbing birthday locked up in the laboratory!" My frustration with trying to get the him out of this lab was unbearable. It was cramped in here and ever since Marshall decided that he wanted to do something 'special' for Gumball's birthday, he hasn't talked to Gum at all. At least Marshall would have more time to get ready.

Distracting Gumball wasn't as hard as I'd thought while he was here in the lab. Though, getting him out was the tricky part...

The Candy Prince flinched as I raised my voice at him. He fixed his crown as a soft sigh escaped. "It isn't that big of a deal, Fi." He replied in a soft mumble. The lab coat he wore clung to him nicely. He was such a nerd for his studies. Though his body was so nicely toned.

It surprised me. He walked over to his desk where he pulled a pen from his coat and scribbled down a formula. Clearing his throat, he continued. "Besides, I have work to do. My celebration isn't until tonight. I have plenty of time."

Cake looked up from my shirt pocket. She'd hidden herself on the way into the Candy Kingdom. I returned her look, shrugging a shoulder. "You're always stuck in here. Don't you wanna go on an adventure or just bake or something?" I paused, placing a finger on my lip.

"That's something you like doing... right. Baking?" I leaned myself against his desk. Its pointed edge poked me in the spine, making me yelp. I glared at Gumball, who ignored the sound as he walked over to a few test tubes that bubbled on the counter. I rubbed the new pained spot while following him like a puppy.

Cake stretched herself to my shoulder and sat close to my ear. Her little arm stretched around my head to keep her from falling as she whispered. I glanced at her from the side. "Fionna, I get the feeling that there's somethin' buggin' him. Go on n' ask'em if somethin' is on his mind."

I turned my head to her. "Wouldn't that be kind of.. private for him though?" Cake shook her head. "I'm here to support ya in case he does get mad. Besides, you're just tryin' t' be a good friend!"Giving her a smile, I snapped my fingers. She returned the smile while sliding herself back into my pocket.

While being hesitant to ask, I slid myself on top of a clean counter. I calmly inhaled and exhaled as my eyes sank to my feet that swung freely in the air. "PG.. Is there," I paused again, my eyes darting up to his as he turned my way "something on your mind that you're not telling me?"

The Candy Prince sighed as he sat down one of the test tubes. Its yellow substance bubbled carelessly as he closed his eyes and removed his goggles from his face. "I-..it's nothing....I've just.. "

He moved over to his coat rack, undoing the buttons as he spoke. "I've become rather lonely...I've not talked to Marshall for a few days. I've sent letters. I called. I even sent raspberry cream puffs for him! But .. still there's been no reply. It worries me." Gum moved his way over to me. He leaned against the counter next to me, but on his elbows.

"I mean, we've been together for a year now and it's my birthday.." His voice trailed off as his eyes began to water. It was heartbreaking to see him this way. "Not to mention my coronation.."

"Bubbles.." I hopped off the counter and wrapped my arms around his torso. In return, the prince wrapped his arms around me and gave my head a soft pat. It felt comfortable having his arms around me this way again.

Since him and Marshall started seeing each other, we didn't have much of a affectionate friendship anymore. I understood why, but these rare moments made me happy. The two were usually in each other's company most of the time. Though, the past week seemed to be quite lonesome for Gum. I felt bad for him, but there was nothing I could do.I couldn't just tell him his birthday gift. It'd spoil the 'surprise'..

"Don't worry, Gum. I'm sure you'll see him soon. Then, you'll be all happy and junk!" Gumball snuffled, then smiled down at me. "I certainly hope so."
