There were four elf kingdoms in all. one being the elven kingdom of Imladris, and three others.

The dwarven kingdom was situated on one end, and the elven kingdom of Rivendell sat on the other.

Each kingdom had their respective kings and queen, and each king and queen had a representative called an elleth.

the elves of Rivendell, along with the dwarrow of Erebor, lived alongside the elves of Lothlórien, and were known to be friends and allies.
and in all these lands there was no elf king or queen.

this made things difficult for certain people within the elven kingdom. this was because they didn't believe that it should have been this way.

as soon as there were any elvish children born, they could not stay home. they must go out into the world, learn to become strong enough to rule themself, and when the time came that they became old enough to do so, find their mates. it took years before elves even learned to speak, let alone write, but after they did, the marriage ceremony began.

Elves married only one another; if two males wished to marry a female, then they would ask for her hand in marriage. If she said yes, she would be his queen. If she said no, he would leave her in peace.

It was quite common, as most courtships were arranged through marriages between families and houses that could not produce heirs themselves. Elrond was a prime example.

However, in the elven court, things were different. The laws had changed to give elves an option to wed whomever they chose. The elves in Rivendell were allowed to marry whoever they pleased. There was nothing that stood in their way from having sex with whomever they wanted. Of course, some might say this was too much freedom.

However, no one ever questioned this law, as many believed that the elves would be happier without such restrictions.

The elves of Lothlorien, though, were also forbidden to marry whomever they desired. However, they were granted permission to choose their mate based on what their mother had said to them while they grew up.

And this is your journey starts.
