This chapter including the following ones are going to be written in 3rd person POV since this method allows me to add more detail into the character's feelings and ideas.
_____________________________________________________________________It was 17:30 and Hopper was at the police station with the excuse of an emergency. He needed the best help he could find in order to get ready and look the best he has ever looked in his whole life for Joyce.
"Flo,do we really have to do this?" He whined as she helped him pick out a tie to go with his floral button down.
"Weren't you the one begging me to help you get dressed? You're going to have to cooperate with me." She responded, picking up a dark green tie and placing it on his chest, trying to figure out whether she liked it or not.
"Fine...are you sure she's going to like this?"
"One hundred percent. It's the most stylish way to dress these days. If only my husband dressed like this when we were young..."
A few minutes went by,when Jonathan walked into the station and made his way to Hopper's office.
"I've never felt this way before and I was just wondering if you would want to-" He heard Hopper whispering from the other side of the door.
He burst inside of the room, thinking that he was talking to another woman, only to find him practising his speech to Joyce in front of the small mirror that hung on the wall. Hopper didn't seem to notice his presence until he finished his speech and took some deep breaths, turning around to head to the door.
"Hey Chief. The kids told me about...you know and I just wanted to come here and talk with you before you take her out."
"Sure kid." Hopper responded and gestured for Jonathan to have a seat.
He gave him the most valuable advice and answered every question Hopper had about how to impress her and make her feel comfortable around him. As they both headed for the door, Jonathan added.
"I'm so thankful for you and everything you've done for my family and I. I trust you with her and I know you are nothing like Lonnie but please, don't hurt her. I'm sure you won't but you know... I'm afraid of us going through the same things over and over again. It has nothing to do with you I promise."
"All I want is for her and you to be happy. I would never hurt her,not in any way and I don't blame you for being scared after all that has happened. Thank you for the advice kid,I appreciate you."
They gave each other a big warm hug, like a father would give to his son and walked put of the station together.
Meanwhile Joyce was at home freaking out over what to wear.
She didn't have a very wide selection of clothing but everything she owned was tailor made for her. After lots of consideration she went for the safest but probably best option. She picked out a black dress that showed off her hourglass figure. It wasn't too short nor was it too long. It was perfect for her. Perfect for him as well.
Once again, she was indecisive about how her hair should be but ended up leaving it as it was,her natural curls falling beautifully down her shoulders.
She applied some layers of dark red lipstick on her lips, making it obvious that she wanted him to be unable not to look at them.
She hadn't dressed that way since back in their graduation party. She remembered it clearly,he couldn't take his eyes off of her and that's exactly what she planned on doing to him again today.
She looked herself in the mirror. She wasn't confident but she was filled with hope. Hope that he would finally love her. Little did she know that he loved her more than himself.
The more she stared at herself, the more she confidence she lost. After some time she even though of making something up just to cancel the plans. I'll never be enough. She thought to herself.
As she was still debating on what to do,Hopper stood outside of her door, practising his speech for the last time.
He fixed his tie and ran gis fingers through his hair, making sure it looked just how it was supposed to.Knock knock
Joyce's heart raced as she heard the knock on the door.
"Coming!" She yelled and ran towards it.
"Hi..." She said.
"Hey..." He awkwardly responded.
A wave of silence followed as they both stared at eachother.
His heart skipped a beat and his cheeks flushed red as he ran his eyes up and down her gorgeous silhouette. He was stunned by her beauty and by her in general. He thought she looked astonishing in her simple t-shirts but seeing her in a dress for the first time in years made his stomach flip.
"Hop"
"Uh...yeah sorry I-I got distracted."
"Got distracted by what?" She chuckled.
"By you Joyce. Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are?"
Her cheeks became the same shade as her lipstick and she looked to the ground, avoiding eye contact.
"You look amazing as well Hop. Thank you for being so sweet." She smiled at him.
"Just saying the truth Joy. C'mon are you ready to go?" He said and urged his arm forward for her to grab on.
She nodded and clinged tightly onto him, with no intention of letting go. She was the happiest she had ever been. And he was as well.
"Thank you." She murmured.
"For what?"
"Nothing special...just thank you."
She truly was thankful for everything. She was just unable to let him know about it all yet.
He helped her into the car like the gentleman he was and sat next to her on the driver's seat. The best night of their lives had just begun.
