Authors Note : Brook is around 4 moons old in this! Also, his mother is a bit different than how Brook thinks she is because he looks up to her.

Brook always knew they were different from the rest of their siblings. For one, their names. Brook knew it was a stretch but...there was no way this wasn't on purpose. All of their siblings were named after flowers. Iris, Hydrangea and Mayflower. His mother's name was Buttercup, and his aunt's was Dahlia. Another, was that all of his siblings looked almost exactly like the rest of his family. Iris was grey, Hydrangea was Siamese like their aunt, Dahlia and Mayflower was a lighter variant of Siamese.

But Brook? Brook was white with brown accents. Part of them wondered how that happened, how they turned out so different from the rest of their siblings but...the other part of them didn't want to know at all.

His mother had said to him one day, "Brook, there's nothing remarkable about you. Iris is courageous and hopeful, Hydrangea is entertaining, graceful and pretty, and Mayflower is strong. You are nothing, compared to that."

His mother had also said to him one day, when he had asked about his name, "Oh, your name? Well, when you were born, seeing how pathetic you were reminded me of a cat I used to know whose name was Brook. And I just thought it fit you, you know? Because you're every bit as...interesting. As he was." Buttercup attempted to sweeten her words as she spoke to Brook, but they knew the truth.

The truth that their mother truly believed they were worthless and pathetic. But it was okay. It was okay as long as he got to be so lucky to stand by her side.

But of course, good things don't last forever.

"Brook! Brook!" *Iris bounded towards them.*

"Huh? What is it, Iris?" *The white furred cat tilted their head curiously.*

"Let's go to the forest! There are some flowers I want to look at." *The grey furred she-cat responded excitedly.*

"E-eh?" *They blurted out.* "But...didn't mom say the forest was dangerous, and that we should never go in?" *They cautioned, trying to urge their sister not to go. Brook didn't want Iris to get hurt.*

"Psshh- you'll protect me! I know it! Besides, it's only a little bit away from our home! We'll be fine, Brook! No need to be so cautious." *She laughed, not taking Brooks words seriously at all.*

"Well...if you say so. I'll do my best to protect you!" *He puffed out his chest in pride, hoping his mediocre fighting skills were enough to protect his sister.*

*As the two kits jumped over the fence and began their journey, Brook couldn't help but realize that they were going an awful ways away from their house.*

"Um...Iris, are you sure you're going the right way?" *They finally mumbled out nervously.*

*Iris sighed frustratedly as they rounded the same tree that they had passed three times already.* "I swear those flowers were somewhere near here!" *She complained.*

"Um, maybe we should head back?" *The white furred cat suggested.*

"No!" *She shouted.* "Oops, sorry. I didn't mean to shout...I just really want to see those flowers up close!!" *The grey furred she-cat shook her head, embarrassed.*

"Alright." *Brook chuckled.* "We'll find those flowers, promise!"

*The siblings continued to make their way across the fields, they heard rustling in the grass.*

"Did you hear that?" *Brook questioned nervously.*

"Hear wha-" *Iris started, before a calico tom stepped out of the long grass and towered over the pair of kits.*

"What are you doing on Windclan territory?" *A threatening, scarred calico hissed at the two. His claws seathed and sank into the dirt beneath them.*

"We just want to see the flowers!" *Iris huffed, stomping her foot on the ground.*

"Brook watched as his sister spoke, dread forming a pit in his stomach.* "If it's their territory, shouldn't we get off of it, Iris?" *They commented anxiously.*

"No! It's not like we're going to do anything...I just want to see the flowers!" *She growled.*

"Silly, silly kits. You should know better than to trespass on clan territory. If you don't get off our territory soon, I'll be back to teach you a lesson." *The tom warned, lashing his tail in anger. He stalked off into the distance so quickly Brook could barely tell he left.*
"Um...let's go back home, Iris..." *Brook chuckled tensely, their furry tail swishing against the grass. It kind of tickled.*

"C'mon Brook! What's the chances he'll actually come back? Besides, we'll be quick! I just want to bring back a flower for mom!" *She stubbornly protested.*

     "Um...are you sure...?"

"Oh c'mon, you said you'd protect me, didn't you? I bet you can beat up that meanie!" *Iris chirped confidently.*

"Y-yeah! Let's be quick, though.." *Their eyes lit up at their sisters compliment. They padded quickly after their sister, who began to enthusiastically bound towards a bush of flowers.*

"Look, look! I found them Brookie!" *She exclaimed joyfully. The small kit picked off one of the flowers, holding it in her mouth.* "We can go now!" *She meowed, voice muffled by the flower.*

*Brook blushed in embarrassment at the nickname, but returned Iris' excitement.* "Yeah! I'm glad you found it, let's go home now!" *They expressed, ready to go home after this 'long' adventure.*

*But what the small kit didn't realize, is that the tom from before stood menacingly behind the siblings.* "I told you to get off of clan territory." *The warrior snarled, suddenly looking like more of a badger than a cat. He picked up Iris in his jaws, ignoring her pleas for help.*

"We were only looking at the flowers!" *She cried.*

*The warrior said nothing, only continuing to carry the kit to some unknown place. Brook hurried after the tom, unsure of what to do.*

"Hey!" *He protested.* "Let her go!"

"I told you what would happen, you just didn't listen. It's time you pay for your crude actions, child." *He hissed through bared teeth.*

"Stop! It hurts!" *Their sister cried as the tom but hard into her neck. Brook watched, helplessly as blood trickled down her neck.*

"Stop it! We were looking at the flowers, we were just about to leave, I promise!" *They cried desperately. The kit hadn't even realized he'd been crying until he spoke up.*

"It's too late now, you useless thing." *He hissed, showing no remorse for what he was about to do.* "Besides, aren't you lucky that I'm only letting you off with a warning? You won't be hurt. Only your little friend here will be." *The calico chuckled lowly.*

*The white furred kit lunged at the calico tom, but failed miserably. They were too small to do anything worthwhile, maybe blind the tom, but Brook couldn't get up that high.*

"There's no use fighting it, idiot. You had a chance to leave, but you decided to stay. It's only your own fault, after all!" *He grinned maniacally. Something told the kits that the tom wasn't doing this for his clan.*

*As they approached a large gorge with a raging river below, Brook felt dread pool in his stomach. His sister, the only one in his family who seemed to love him, was going to die and there was nothing he could do about it. The tom suddenly dropped his sister, but not on the ground. She looked dazed. Before she could even plead or run, the calico snapped her neck. Brook stared in horror as blood trickled down Iris' neck. Her eyes turned lifeles, rolling into the back of her head. Brook rushed forward, not quite understanding what had happened.*

"Iris? Iris, wake up!" *They pleaded, hot tears running down their ugly, worthless face. They couldn't protect her. They truly were worthless. The one person who had loved him and placed their faith in him lay dead at his feet.*

*The calico was long gone now, and Brook didn't know what he would tell Buttercup. They gently tucked the flower into her ear, carrying her body off back home.*
