Alone and scared

Foxfire was now a confident but curious little moth only one and a half seasons old in sky-kid age.
I felt something was wrong. While gliding I saw the sky turn red over sanctuary. Distress calls filled the air of the island. Out of naïve courage I ignored the obvious warnings and decided to play hero. Soaring in from the clouds I swooped down to the main island with my mind filled with glory. From what I could see no one was there... it was like everyone had ran away in fear. A small battle must have taken place on the cliff side I had landed on. While landing my foot clipped a sharp spike of red glowing crystal. Big burning pain shot through my body as I crashed and stubbled. My light drained almost instantly. Three of the largest dark crabs I've ever seen charge at me from different angles before I can even get up. My whole body burned as one then another slammed me into another red crystal, almost impaling me. Too fast to process my body turned cold and blue spikes of cold grew from my body as the light got beat out of me. I had to run but my legs couldn't move. Head racing I stubbled away as a crab slammed me again this time to the cliff. The torn remains of my wings lay on the ground getting eaten by the crabs. Heaving with frost filled lungs I notice a crab about to charge me off. With the leftovers of my light I just slip away off the cliff with nowhere else to go. Adrenaline had just kicked in and I let the wind take my beaten body down into a small cave. Gray was all I saw. I was so sure I was dead until I saw a light jellyfish just chilling in the cave, waiting for someone broken to come by. In pain I just slowly used the last of my strength to move my gliding to the only light I could see. The warm glow warmed my cold body as I clung to the cap of the massive jellyfish. Heaving and in pain I just clung there in primal fear. Several minutes pass while my body warmed and heat came back into my senses. I, Foxfire, had just had my first interaction with near death. Tiredness sweep over me at last. My grip slipped and my body fell into the shallow water of the cave. I laid there for who knows how long before a veteran found me half conscious.
It took me a few days before I had recovered mentally enough to leave the safety of the home island. Sanctuary, a place of peace became a battleground of life eating crabs as ruthless as krill or maybe more so. I was told it was cleared out and safe but I did not return and instead I stayed anywhere I knew was safe for moths.
