Day Five - Fantasy AU
Warnings and Author's Note:
No warnings for this one shot, just a little drama and a lot of sweet. I'm very proud of this one, it is one of my favourites to date and it has a theme song! *points to above*
This was the only actual story I prepared for this KA week, hope you all like it as much as I do. So let's go go go!
In the modern world where all magical beings live and blend in amongst humans, Cupids can be born or recruited to join the ranks. But when a cupid can't match couples correctly, he enlists the help of a wizard.
However, there is just one little catch..
~***~
"Arthit. That's the 5th couple in a month that you've matched up that has broken up." Venus groaned, rubbing her face. Never in her life had she met such a failure of a cupid.
"Venus, I told you. My cupid's arrow doesn't work! No matter what I do it doesn't match up the pairs correctly!"
"And I told you it's because you don't believe in love!" Venus exclaimed. "What kind of cupid doesn't believe in love! I should have just sent you to Sol instead."
Arthit remained silent, sulking at his feet. It wasn't his fault he didn't believe in love. It was just such a foreign concept to him. Why would a person's happiness be tethered to another? It wasn't practical and it made absolutely no sense at all.
Silence ensued between the two as Venus massaged her temples, looking at her cupid who was now fiddling with the hem of his clothes. Arthit was a good boy, she knew this well. But his powers as a cupid were not awakened properly and it was causing the boy more pain than good. Unfortunately with each broken couple, the cupid who matched them up suffered the consequences in stabbing pains. Arthit never once complained about it but Venus knew that it was a matter of time before the young cupid suffered one too many repercussions and caused his own death.
Venus sighed. "There is one last way I can think of to help you. There is a wizard that I plan on recruiting as a cupid. It seems that he was born with the ability to see matched pairs. Why don't you go to him and test his abilities for me? We can hit two birds with one stone that way. You can finally get proper matches and we can also see if he really is fit to be a cupid."
Arthit raised a suspicious eyebrow, thinking about the whole matter. He didn't think there would be a wizard who would be gifted with such a weird power but in his current situation, there was nothing else he could do. So he nodded, agreeing to the plan.
"Where is this wizard and where can I find him?"
"His name is Kongpob Sutthiluck and I'll enchant your arrow to point you in the right direction to find him." Venus started to explain but before she could finish, Arthit had simply nodded and disappeared in a little heart of pink smoke.
"Argh this child! I wasn't done yet! I didn't even get to tell him the most important part!"
~***~
"Kongpob.. Kongpob.. Where are you?" Arthit mumbled to himself, allowing the arrow resting in his palm to spin and guide him like a compass. So this was what it felt like to have a normal working arrow. Arthit's arrow had never spun on its own accord. The rest of the other cupids laughed at him, especially those who were recruited. There had never been a precedence of a born cupid not having the inert power to recognise couples.
His arrow in that moment began to spin wildly, and Arthit perked up as it came to a sudden stop, pointing north east. Arthit looked up from where he was standing. No, it couldn't be. His arrow must be mistaken. Why would it be pointing to that person? And yet, across the street, there was only one being.
