I wake up at 4:00am ,to an alarm that could make you think it's the end of the world. Every morning.
I drag myself into the bathroom and take an hour long shower. I brush my teeth until it hurts. I spend 45 minutes picking the perfect outfit.I sit in front of my mirror and spend an hour doing my make-up. I conceal with the lightest shade of "deep toned" possible. And contour my pudgy nose into oblivion.
I spend 30 minutes straightening my hair. Every kink, every curl, every trace of my black heritage, gone by the time I'm done.
I go to the kitchen, kiss my parents, grab one measly pancake, then leave.
Every. Morning.
I was walking down the neighbourhood for some fresh and on my phone recording for my vlog when I saw the most confusing thing ever. I saw a police man arresting my black neighbours (Nigel,Grayson and Manny), for what reason is a mystery but I could make out what the police man was saying "you are under arrest for- Then I couldn't hear anything. I rushed down to the police man and recited "Sir, what's going on?" He looked at me with his blue beady eyes as if he was trying to tell me something through telekinesis. He asked me "do you know these three?" I said "Like heck yeah, do you think I would rush to a stranger's aid?" But I only said that in my head. I actually said "yes they're my neighbours and have been for 4 years and have never done anything bad in their who lives. I breathed angrily "The worst thing they've probably done is take two candies instead of one on halloween." He looked at me offended as if I was the one who arrested 3 innocent men. "Come here" he said "if your EVER insult a police man EVER AGAIN, that's a guaranteed spot behind the bars" he screamed. He was spitting on my face and I smelt his horrendous coffee breath. I stared then walked away. The commotion was registered on the news and is being retold differently than how it had actually happened. Somehow the reporters found my house and tried to interview me, but I just shut all my curtains on them and started listening to music. I recorded the whole thing that happened on my phone and I'm going to show it to the police and start a court case. I showed the video to the chief of police and said he will register a court case of the 7th of November (in 29 days).
The day has arrived, and I am pretty confident. Nigel is on the stand and has my phone as evidence, and next to him is the obnoxious police man has no evidence what so ever and has made fake documents. The witness were me, and some of my neighbours who had also seen the commotion but was too afraid to get involved. The next on the stand was Grayson and Manny. The police man's "witness" was his wife (who awfully looked like a gender bend of George Floyd's killer). Fast forward, The man gets fired and arrested for 3 months due to a horrific style of hate crime and was recorded on his permanent record as well his wife's and justice was served.
Loving yourself has a variety of meanings to it, coming to terms to who you are and accepting the things you can't change about yourself. It can be defined as self-care and self-respect and self-love. However, it doesn't mean that you are egotistical. Loving yourself is a healthy acknowledgement that you are worth everything.
It's important to remember that everyone still has their flaws and imperfections. All of us have our own weaknesses and strengths, Curly, kinky, straight, wavy and afro. Everyone is different in their own unique way. How to appreciate yourself is up to you. White, brown, mixed race or black skin.
No one should wait around for another one's approval. You are good enough . It is your choice to determine when you are the best you can be, no one else's. Everyone is different
