"So, she's not coming back to school again?" Cindy asked while the three girls sat together before school started. It was really the only alone time they ever had alone unless they went somewhere after school. At lunch, Lyle would always be cozying up to Larissa, while other guys would be there hitting on Ryley and Cindy.
"Yeah, my mom said her bitch of a guardian came in and pretty much forced her to let that little dyke do her schoolwork from home until graduation," Larissa said with a huff.
"Did you really want to have her come back?" Ryley wondered. "I'd thought you'd be happier with her gone."
"Ha!" Larissa scoffed. "The interview with the doctor said she was almost killed. I bet that was all bullshit. I wanted to give her another beating."
"Well, I doubt you'll get that chance now," Ryley pointed out.
"Maybe we can go beat her ass in her house!" Cindy gleefully suggested.
"No way. My mom said her guardian was scary. Maybe we'll get lucky, and she'll go to college with us," Larissa muttered.
"You don't think you've had enough payback?" Ryley asked.
Larissa narrowed her eyes and glared at the other girl. "No! She sullied my family! My sister had to go live with my aunt so she could be made straight! She needs to keep suffering!"
"Until when?" Cindy asked. "I'm not sure we can do anything else!"
"We'll get her at graduation!" Larissa smiled happily. "Break her leg and she won't be able to walk at all!"
"Yes!" Cindy crowed. "That would be so awesome!"
"Oh! Or we could get her at the prom! Kick her ass and then beat up her date too!" Larissa might as well have been rubbing her hands together like a cartoon bad guy at that point.
"Oh my god! That would be so sweet!" Cindy was just egging her on now.
Ryley just sat there, not sure how she was supposed to react. They'd almost killed Nai'a once, but even that wasn't enough to satisfy Larissa's bloodlust. She doubted anything would satisfy her. It was terrifying to think what she might be like in the future. She just hoped she never had any kids! She hadn't even told the girls that she wasn't going to college with them. They'd had a grand deal to all go to UCLA together, but Ryley had decided to accept an offer from San Diego State instead. It was much closer and would save a lot of money.
And she'd be away from these two horrible humans. Not that she felt like she was any better anymore.

Sydney was on cloud nine for the rest of the day once Heidi had dropped off the small package with the dolphin on it. She hadn't even said a thing, just flashed a little smirk and then continued on her way. She was sure Heidi wasn't alone at the hospital, but that just meant that today must be Nai'a's appointment with the plastic surgeon.
It took all of her willpower to not follow Heidi and go see Nai'a. She knew she shouldn't, but it was so hard not to! For the last two weeks she had been a bundle of nerves, and her kids were picking up on it. She just passed it off as work driving her a little crazy, but she wasn't sure either of them bought it. Even Jude, for all that he was turning five in a few months, could tell mom was acting differently. But for him it was awesome, because he took advantage of her extra energy to beg for trips to the park and the beach or simply to build Lego monstrosities.
Her daughter just shrugged and did her homework, not having much need to ask for much. Well, she did ask for a trip to the mall, but that was for all of them, because everyone needed a few things for the upcoming warmer weather. She had to restrain herself, but being a single mom in California, even living in an older house with no mortgage, wasn't cheap.
