"There was something different about Kaylie, something that not everyone noticed, except for Mason. He noticed and adored every single detail about her. How her fiery red hair seemed to glow in the sunlight, her beautiful emerald green irises, how her favorite season was autumn, how she'd spend her days painting and how she loved the outdoors. She was truly magnificent, he thought, and he would make her hi-"
Eleanor groaned and put down her phone. She let herself fall on her bed face first. The urge to scream as loud as she could in her pillow was present, but she didn't want her mom to freak out.
This was the second time Eleanor read this story. "Her Secret Admirer" was it called. She absolutely adored it, yet despised it at the same time. It annoyed her how "perfect" it was and how it seemed like the characters had no real life problems at all. Meanwhile she laid in her bed crying because she couldn't find a prom date. Or how AngelicaWrites would say it, she laid the in her misery, tears flowing over her rose cheeks, waiting for the day that it will all change.
She pushed away some curly strands of brown hair that escaped her bun. After some not so serious thinking, she decided the only person in the world capable enough to deal with her drama, would be her best friend Jayden.

Eleanor put down her phone. She smiled, she knew she could always count on him. Jayden was Elle's friend ever since elementary school. When they first met, they immediately became inseparable. They always have been there for each other and no secret actually stays a secret for the other.
Some minutes later Eleanor heard knocking on her window. She turned around only to see Jayden troubling to stay on the same level. "You could have used the door you know," She said opening the window. After some struggling and some help from Eleanor, Jayden finally entered her room. "Yeah well, I don't think your mom will be pleased to see me on her doorstep at eleven pm asking if you could hang out," Jayden answered slightly out of breath, "So, what's the deal this time" Elle knew this was coming especially since this was the whole reason he was here anyways. "Soooo, you know how prom is coming up, right?" she said slightly hesitant, "Well, what if-" Jayden interrupted her, "Elle, you know I love you, but you have to stop. I understand prom is this big thing for you and how you're excited to find a date and all, but be real for a sec," he sighed then continued, "We're nobodies, nonexistent, loners. Prom is in two weeks and we both haven't found anyone and that's okay, but you have to except that things like prom just aren't for people like us."
Eleanor felt offended, how could he be so inconsiderate?! She wanted to say something, but before she was able to Jayden already spoke, "If that's all you wanted to say I better get going, we have a test tomorrow and I better study than do this for the thousandth time." And with that he was gone and left Eleanor alone in her room.
This wasn't the first time they had this discussion, it had been like this ever since prom was announced. Eleanor really wanted to go, prom had been her dream ever since middle school. Jayden on the other hand had already given up on the whole thing the moment it started. He didn't want to disappoint her, never, but the whole situation was just too much for him to deal with at the moment.
Jayden groaned as he arrived home. His dad was still out and his mom already went to bed, so he could use the front door. He entered the hallway and put his jacket away. "Where have you been?" Jayden looked up to see his sister on top of the stairs, "Oh hey Kate, what are you doing up so late?" "As the eldest, that should be my concern. Now answer." Jayden let out another sigh, "Just at Elle's, it's not that big of a deal." His sister, now at the bottom of the stairs, right in front of him, was not so happy with the attitude her younger brother was giving her. "It is if you don't tell anyone!" She took a deep breath, "We- I didn't know where you was. I'm worried about you okay, you're acting so distant lately and I just don't know what to do with it."
Jayden sighed once again, it had been like this for over a month now. Ever since their dad decided going out is more fun than taking care of teenagers and mom said, "If you won't do it, then I won't do it either!" Leaving Jayden's sister, Kate, in control. "I'll be going now," Jayden said as he slipped past Kate, up the stairs and in his room. "You know what?" he said to himself, "Maybe the window wasn't so bad after all."
Hey guys,
So I know this chapter is a lot and the story mainly focuses on Eleanor, but I wanted some backstory for Jayden as well, because I hate plain characters even if they are not the main focus.
ALSO, I know the characters don't seem very likable now, but that wasn't my intention. My intention was for them to be relatable, not likable, because honestly everyone has their flaws and it sucks seeing characters without them.
Also, I'm sorry for everyone who is reading this on their phone and the text messages look like shit, just flip your screen and it will look better, okay?
Anyway, that is probably it for now, I will make a cover soon, but for now you'll have to deal with my beautiful profile picture as cover :)
