HELLO
__________________________________

"Volleyball? At your height?"

"Honestly you should just give up volleyball, you should focus on something else,"

"Who even likes volleyball?"

He's heard it all. Some tried to pry him out of volleyball out of concern, while others were just plain rotten.

But you were different.

"Don't listen to any of them, Shoyo! They're just a bunch of idiots, they don't know what they're talking about!"

"I'll be rooting for you!"

"Remember me when you make it to the Olympics!"

You were always cheering for him, making sure to encourage him whenever everyone else tried to get him down.

"(F/n), can I ask you something?"

You paused your game,
"What is it, Shoyo?"

He fiddled with the end of his shirt, not quite sure how to express his question.

"Why are you so... nice to me? Everyone else has made fun of me for wanting to play volleyball, but you never have. Why?"

You bit your lip. You couldn't confess. Not here. Not yet.

Your expression changed to a soft smile,
"Because I'm your friend! And friends are supposed to cheer each other on!"

He smiled back at you, accepting your answer.

Suddenly he was outside of your house, staring at the moving van.

It was all happening too fast. He had so much to say and do with you, and now you were leaving him?

All he could do was watch the van drive off with you in it, waving goodbye with tears in his eyes.

You'd visit him sometime, right? You wouldn't abandon him, right? He shook himself out of his thoughts. You'd never do that to him, you were his super best friend!

But what if you found someone new? Someone to replace him?

You wouldn't forget about him... would you?

Suddenly he woke up, finding himself in your arms. Oh how he enjoyed your embrace, you were always able to make him feel so safe, even when you two were just elementary schoolers.

He snuggled up in your sweatshirt, enjoying the softness.

"Are you awake?"

You groaned in response.

"Can you promise me something?"

He saw your head node slightly.

"Don't leave me again, please?"

It seemed a bit odd for your tiny friend to seem so sentimental, but you decided not to comment on it.

"Of course Shoyo, I promise,"

Your heart ached. You wished you had the courage to just tell him how you really felt right then and there. Especially with the promise you had made him.

But you couldn't bring yourself to. What if he said no? You couldn't face rejection for a second time.

So you just laid there, holding him in your arms, enjoying the moment while it lasted.

'I'll take what I can get...'
