The following few months were definitely difficult, and a hard adjustment, but they worked through it together. It was a long process, one filled with going back and forth from Brighton, and their hometown, lots and lots, and lots of paperwork, but now Wilbur is officially Tommy's legal guardian. It's only now for less than a year due to Tommy turning 17 but it's worth it.
Tommy was never one for 'making friends'. Everyone found him harsh and annoying but in the new town it was different. Going into secondary school with people who've been together their entire lives sounds scary but two certain people made it a lot easier.
Somehow, he nearly had every class with either Ranboo or Tubbo or both. It just so happens that the two were best friends and really friendly. The three of them became a trio and Tommy had felt like he had known them his entire life. For once, he would invite them over to his house, something he had never done before. He told them things that he hadn't even told Wilbur (yet), and they shared their life story with him.
Tubbo's dad lived in America until he had Tubbo. He had never married Tubbos Mom and had raised Tubbo as a single dad. His dad was a very very wealthy man, so he one day just decided he wanted Tubbo to grow up in the U.K, so that's what they did! They moved there when he was a baby and there have been no regrets. Tommy will say that he makes fun of Tubbos name being 'Tubbo sparklez.'
Turns out, Ranboo had a very similar situation to Tommy's.
His dad left him when he was very very young, not old enough to even remember his father. His mom was a drug abuser. She was very young when she had Ranboo, so his entire childhood was basically watching Dora while a rave went on downstairs. She was constantly high and ignored Ranboo because she didn't want to deal with the fact that she ruined her life by having him so young. Really it was the drugs that ruined her life, and the constant being with a new guy every week. One day when Ran was ten, they found his mom OD'd on the bathroom floor, with needles in her arm.
Since then he moved into a Foster home until they tracked down his closest relative, which was his aunt, who didn't even know he was a person. He has gone to therapy, and his therapist says that his trauma response is forgetfulness. Ranboo kept strongly suggesting to Tommy that he should get a therapist and talk out his feelings.
But that's the issue, he just hasn't felt anything towards it.
Sure at the start, he was constantly pissed off at Wilbur for leaving him, but he would have been pissed off regardless of his parents death. It'd been four months since the accident and he hasn't shed a single tear. He wished he felt angry or sad or something, but he felt indifferent, like it was just a normal thing to happen to him.
Living with a semi famous musician is a weird experience.
To Tommy, he is the same, smelly, scared of the dark and ghosts (but won't admit it), protective, annoying Wilbur, but to the fans he is basically a god.
His least favorite part about it is probably the edits of his brother on stage while singing. He loves going to the shows, and being friends with the band, but when he sees an edit of his brother, to the very same show that he went to, he gags a little.
