I connect my headphones to my phone and reply to Austin.
"Sure! What's your number?"
I'm so excited to hear his voice. He looks dreamy, so his voice must be even dreamier. The notification from him with his number pops up, and I instantly call. A deep, rough voice picks up.
"Uhm, hey, is this Austin?"
My voice comes out breathy and weak.
"Yeah, Lily?"
A smile dances on my lips. It's him!
"Yeah! How are you?"
We go on talking for hours. I take in everything he tells me, and I can't help but let his voice intoxicate me. It sounds like the angels of heaven came down to sing a beautiful song to me. I get lost in my own thoughts eventually, wondering what we would look like as a couple- what our wedding would be like- and snap back to focus when he says my name.
"So, Lily, I feel like the only person talking is me. What is your life like? How was your day? What do you like to do?"
And he's considerate?! This must be what love feels like.
"Oh, well. My life is... Complicated. My day was good! My best friend came over and hung out for a little bit. That's how I was convinced to download the dating app. I like to read and watch crime documentaries."
My voice comes off as charming, but nervous at the same time.
"Nice, nice. I'm glad she convinced you to. I'm glad I'm getting to know you."
Heaven save me now, he feels the same way I feel. Just as I was about to ask a question, a woman's voice interrupts our conversation. My blood starts to boil.
"Hey Austin! How are you son? Sorry I just dropped in, but I brought dinner!"
Oh thank goodness, it's just his mom. He pauses for a moment before apologizing, and explains he has to go. We say our goodbyes and hang up. Falling back onto my soft bed, I let out a small squeal of happiness.
He loves me too! I can't wait to meet his mom. She'll love me, just like he does.
