A shallow love

How do you see me?

What is it that you want from me?

Is it my smile that you want so thoughtlessly?

Is it my words of advice that you take for granted?

Is it my hand you hold like an accessory?

Is it my struggles that you ignore?

Or is it my repression and tolerance that you so adore?

Is it my quiet mutterings that you think are cute?

When the subjects I speak of are so often mute

Is it my ambition which you often shoot down?

Is it my feigned boldness, even when I set my eyes to the ground?

Is it my body, to which I'm confined?

Is it my quiet thinking that traps me in my mind?

Is it my imagination vast and wide

That paints a bleak picture of the experiences I hide?

Do you love me for my pain?

Or am I just a doll and you're a child who wants to play?

Do you love me for my flaws and quirks?

Do you love me for my expressions and words?

Do you love me for the actions I take

Do you love me for the things that I make?

Or are you staring at this body that will change

Are you longing for these bones before they might break.

I'm only a human with this body and mind

And it can all change

Will you still claim me as 'mine'

What gives you this love? Is it envy? Is it shallow?

Do you think going any deeper

That I can be handled?
