Eggman was very well-known for his projects and selling them at the dark market for a large price. They were all like toys to play with, you could do anything with them.
His sales had been off the charts in the passing year when he started, the first project he made was an ageless ebony hedgehog named Shadow by his grandfather 50 years ago in Space Colony ARK.

He recently made a new project, Project Sonic.

. . .
Prologue

50 years after.

"No, no, no! This is all wrong!" A raspy voice shouted from the dimly lit lab, a large cylinder tube in the middle of the whole room with a monitor in front of it. A round-shaped man, along with a mobian fox stood in front of the tube, looking at what seemed to be an animal in the tube filled with water.

The man groaned with a thud as he hit the monitoring table. "I am not waiting another four days for this abomination to arise from the case! "He shouted again as he looked back to his assistant. "But sir, all tests were successful, it will be released in four days as said on the monitor." His assistant nervously said as the doctor threw an angry fit. "Gus,"

 "Yes sir?"

"Find a way to get that thing out, or else... I'm going to burn you to pieces!"

"Yes sir!"

After a while, the fox tapped on the monitor in front of the tube, observing the project as his mind was deep in thought. Doctor Robotnik really wants to sell this creature, He thought, a door opened behind him, which stood a little ebony hedgehog standing there with the fox's keycard. "How'd you get that!?" He shouted as he realized it was his.

"I found it near the big computer thingy," The hedgehog said before giving it to him. "Gus, what is that in the tube?" He asked before pointing at the azure creature as its hands twitched around. "That is... A new friend you can play with, Shadow." Gus said nervously before chuckling. "A friend? I've never had one of those." Shadow's eyes sparkled and a large smile appeared on his face. "I'll have a friend now." He chanted, "Indeed, you will." Gus smiled at him.

How could a mobian child as innocent and sweet as this be dangerously described by Doctor Robotnik, he was just too sweet.

. . .

A few hours later, Gus was back to observing the creature as it twitched more.
'All test successful. Must wait- 4 days for release'

That's what it kept repeating no matter how long Gus tried. "Oh c'mon!" He groaned and grumbled before hearing an opening of a hatch as he looked up. The tube emptied and the azure creature opened its emerald green eyes, Gus' eyes widen before shouting. "Doctor Robotnik!"
"What is it you pesky fox?" Doctor Robotnik stormed into the room and saw the tube was open, The blue thing was placing his paws on the glass and whimpered as its ears went down. "Finally!" He shouted before pressing a few buttons which opened a small hatch for the hedgehog to walk through.

It jolted and hissed before smelling something hot. It sniffed more and followed the faint scent of food, in Gus' hands was a small chili dog. The hedgehog nervously and cautiously grabbed the chili dog before bolting back into a corner and slowly ate, its eyes sparkling from the taste. "Guess we have a chili dog eater." Gus chuckled before going closer to the scared hedgehog.
He gently grabbed the hedgehog and placed it on an examiner.

"This will be great to put on the Television, I could already see people lining up to buy this." Doctor Robotnik exclaimed with a howl of laughter. "But sir, shouldn't we keep this little thing?" Gus suggested.
"I'm not keeping another project, that's just more mouths to feed, plus I have you and Shadow,"
"No need to keep Sonic." He protested very sternly at Gus.

The teen fox knew he was just a project made by the Doctor, it was enough that he was kept and not sold off to some weird mobian out in mobious. The way the Doctor was so kind back then when he was made, he could understand It would be trouble having to deal with three projects in a single lair.
Gus quietly sighed before looking away from the hedgehog as Doctor Robotnik placed a collar that was too tight for him, before leaving. "You poor thing.. too bad I can't do anything to help you." Gus mumbled before petting the azure hedgehog, he purred lightly, making the fox smile before leaving.

"But, projects shouldn't get attached."
