The sound of dripping water could be heard, meeting the ears of a rather fiery-haired woman. She was lying down in an alleyway, wearing a traditional kimono with a haori over her shoulders. For hours, she lay there asleep, only to pry open her red eyes— ones that looked so similar to her mother's— pushing herself up into a sitting position, she wiped away a few stray tears that crept at the corners of her red hues, letting out an instinctive yawn as she stretched. Pausing, she processed her awake state, slowly realizing that she was no longer home. Looking around, she assessed her situation, taking notice of the unfamiliar pipe that leaked water, along with the nearby dumpster filled with foul smells emitting from it.

It was night, and the dark sky possessed far fewer stars than what she remembered, unaware that it was the cause of light pollution. Frowning, Rengoku Y/N stood up, unsure of what to do. Where am I? She wondered, taking in the sight of the alleyway's exit. There, just beyond the walls, was a busy city filled with various technologies that Y/N was completely caught off guard by. Never before had she seen any of it; the roads full of strange-looking cars, bright lights that blinded her, and the sidewalks filled with hoards of people. All of it was so excruciatingly unfamiliar to her, even when she learned about the existence of trains some time ago, this was nothing in comparison.

Breathing in, she stepped forward, anxiety tingling underneath her skin. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do, nor did she even know how she got here in the first place. Where is Kyojuro? The last that she could remember was training with her much older brother, practicing her skills in order to further advance her career as a demon slayer. Speaking of which, she quickly glanced around, slightly smiling when she saw that her nichirin blade was laying on the ground not too far away. Picking it up, she hoisted it onto her hip before walking out of the alleyway, only to let go of that temporary smile that quickly morphed back into a frown.

I need to remain calm and look around. It was a rather simple task, although she wasn't sure where she should begin. She has been to cities before, but this was much larger than any of the ones that she has seen in her life. To begin with, Y/N used the surrounding area to climb on top of one of the various roofs, completely dismissing the curious looks that she was receiving from the ongoing passersby. With a quick intake of air, Y/N used her lips to let out a loud whistle, one that was coded specifically for her kasugai crow. After waiting for a few seconds, a black blur swiftly flew on top of her shoulder, using his beak to pull at her hair in relief.

"Y/N-sama! Y/N-sama! I was looking everywhere for you!" The bird spoke, his beady eyes tearing up from joy.

The fire-schemed woman hummed, using her hand to gently stroke the bird's back, "Do you know how we got here?"

"No, Y/N-sama, I woke up sprawled in a tree! I was just about to ask if you knew, but I suppose not..." The kasugai crow trailed, uncertainty lacing his voice. The bird's name was Roo, which in the old English language meant 'peace' and 'quietness.'

"Do you know if there are any demons lurking around?" Y/N inquired, disappointed that Roo had just about the same lead as she did thus far.

"I haven't seen any, but I wouldn't doubt their presence." By this time, Roo has now calmed his frantic nerves, feeling comfort in the space of his owner. "As you know, demons thrive in cities such as this when they have the ability to disguise themselves."

Rengoku Y/N did nothing more than nod in response, silence soaking between them as they mutually scanned the area. Y/N could not sense any demon nor a dangerous aura, her intuition telling her that it was safe for this moment. Letting out a deep sigh, Y/N relaxed the muscles in her face as she peered down below, watching as each person walked and did their thing. It was so unearthly unusual how she and Roo got here, as she really was just moments ago— from her perspective— training with her older brother. She wondered how Kyojuro was doing; if he was worried about her sudden disappearance, or whether or not he had realized it yet. Or Senjuro, who was her younger brother: what was he doing? Was he okay, was he still sweeping the floors after receiving a scolding from their father?
