when i became friends with yang jeongin, i didn't expect to be where i am now, sitting with him by the water like this.

if we rewind to four months ago, back to the first time i ever hung out with jeongin, i was introduced to a life i had never experienced. it seemed like his family and all of the people in his town lived differently than mine did, even though i lived in the next town over.

everyone in his family was carefree and close, vivacious and kind. i loved spending time with him among fields of flowers and riding bikes with him and his cousins.

well.. i enjoyed being with most of his cousins. his one cousin hanni annoyed the shit out of me. her voice was high pitched and i was absolutely jealous of her. she was gorgeous, and never made a single mistake. she got to live the kind of life jeongin lives every day. amazing family, close friends, and a big house with arches and gardens and all of those kinds of those things.

when jeongin and i started dating, i became worried that i wasn't good enough for him. he was used to being surrounded with girls in his family that were fun and beautiful, and i didn't think i would ever compare to them.

then one night i guess you could say i put my jealousy into action. jeongin and i were babysitting his little cousin, (hanni's younger sister), hazel. jeongin had gone to bed early, and i kissed him goodnight before taking hazel back over to her house.

when we went inside, hanni and her friends were sitting in a circle on the floor, painting each other's nails and singing along to music. when they saw me they all grew quiet and glanced at each other.

"isnt that jeongin's girlfriend?" one of them whispered to hanni. "yup, isn't she an absolute dud?" " she said just loud enough for me to hear.

i looked over and hanni bit her lip, smiling oh so innocently.

i grabbed hazel's hand and pulled her along with me. when we got to the top of the stairs i heard bursts of laughter from down below and i tugged on the sleepy child's arm harder, blinking back tears. "let's get you to bed."

hazel got under the covers and i read her a book. when i turned the lights off and got up hazel stopped me. "y/n?" "yes?"

"please stay with innie forever."

"i really hope i do. goodnight."

back in the hallway, i heard the girls downstairs singing songs from mamma mia. anger filled me and i scanned the doors, looking for hanni's bedroom.

i found it and crept inside. all around her room were big plants and gold trim. i gasped and went over to her wardrobe.

there in her closet hanging was the most beautiful dress i had ever seen. it was long and white, with simple white ruffles at the torso. i wanted it, i NEEDED to have it. on the label at the top it said 'sweet sixteen birthday bash' and then her measurements.

it was a custom dress, made for her birthday in a month. i stood there, eyeing it for a minute, and then grabbed it off the hanger, shoving it into my backpack.

the hanger would look suspicious just hanging there so i opened her window and tossed it out across the road, where it landed in a sheep pen their neighbors owned.

i quickly tiptoed out of the room and went out the back door to avoid hanni, a grin spread across my face.

-

hanni apparently had five meltdowns. i overheard jeongin's mom talking to hanni's mom and i laughed out loud to myself. "what are you laughing at?" jeongin asked looking up from his book. "nothing." i smiled and curled up beside him.

-

"i have a surprise date planned for us today." i.n. told me over the phone.

"its not a surprise if i know about it." i laugh.

"fuck it, i just want to do something special for you." "alright, im down." "good, wear something nice because we are having a picnic!" and then he hung up.

i went over to my dresser and pulled hanni's dress out from behind all of my socks. i put it on and went over to the mirror. it was so beautiful. i had to wear it.

-

"where are you taking me?" i giggle as jeongin pulls me along. i feel the grass beneath my feet and the warm sun above my head. "we're almost there." he says, keeping his hand firm over my eyes.

"alright, we made it." i open my eyes to see a large pond surrounded by willow trees. i smiled widely and looked at jeongin who was grinning from ear to ear. i threw my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. "i love it so much."

"im glad." he said and helped me sit down on a blanket he had spread out. he placed the basket down and brought out our lunch.

-

"y/n, you look so beautiful in that dress." i stopped eating and looked at him. "...thanks!"

"but, i know its not yours..."

i smirked. "whattt? of course it is-"

"and i know how jealous you are of hanni." he continued. "don't be. you're perfect just how you are. trust me, you don't want to be hanni. and i don't want you to be like her. i like you for you."

my eyes welled up but i wiped them and moved closer to him. "you really think so?"

"i know so. you're beautiful y/n."

i leaned into him and we kissed, surrendering everything to him.

he pulled away and stared at me, smiling, admiring and adoring me more than anyone else in this world ever could.

"you know," he said after a while. "you still need to give that dress back."

i groaned and snuggled closer to his chest, breathing in his scent. "mm, i guess so."
