"Zegras, you are sluggish as all hell today. Pull it together." Coach said to me as I stepped off the ice from morning skate.
"Sorry Coach." I mumbled as I walked toward the locker room.
"You really are moving slow." My best friend, Jack, said to me. "What's good with you?"
"First off, thank you Rowdy. Not only do I love hearing from my coach that I suck but the confirmation from my best friend really just puts it over the edge. Thank you so much." I forced a smile as we reached our stalls.
"You know what I meant you big baby." Jack smiled.
"Two, I didn't sleep well last night. Whole thing with Elle kinda rattled me." I said, unlacing my skates.
"Yeah, it was sketchy. I had a nightmare or two myself. But you're good dude, it's over and we will never let Cole touch an elevator panel again." Jack teased.
"I just can't get that look in her eyes out of my head. She was so scared man."
"Yeah." Jack sighed. "Elle's tough though, she'll be okay."
Jack turned into his stall when I noticed Johnny sitting in his down the way. I stood up and hurried over to him.
"Hey Beecher."
"Yo, what's up Z?" He jumped when I called him.
"Sorry. How's your sister?"
"She's good. She'll be here tonight." Johnny said, dropping his gloves in his bag.
"Good, good. I'm glad." I sighed with relief before heading back to my stall to change.
"Alright, I'm thinking we lunch, we nap, we win, we go home." Jack said to me, Cole, and Alex.
"I'm game." Cole said.
I followed the boys out and to the bus, putting in my airpods for the bus ride.
When we got back to the hotel Elle and Mia were walking through the lobby with coffees in their hands, completely wrapped up in each other and laughing at something Elle was saying.
"Beth." Jack said.
"What in fuck?" Elle stopped walking immediately and turned around.
"Figured I'd try something new." Jack said.
"Oh, you wanna try something new? Okay. Try taking a shower with the hairdryer in your hotel room." Elle quipped.
"Alright so it's not a good nickname, I apologize Beechy." Jack smiled, patting her shoulder and walking to the elevator.
"Hey." Elle smiled at me.
"Hi." I said. "You okay?"
"What?" She faltered for a second. "Oh yeah, yeah I'm fine Trev." She blushed and brushed her hair behind her ear.
