Miles's pov:

Y/n l/n. The niece of Flora's new teacher. What is it about her? She seems... interesting, weird but weird in a good way? I'm curious about her.

I brought her to my tree house.

My parents hired people to build it for me when I was 8. I used to let Flora come up with me and even the few 'friends' I had at the time.

Those people ditched me the second my parents died. Of course they never actually cared about me.

When they kicked me out of their friend group it was a week after my parents funeral and I decided to break the ladder so no one other than me could get up there. I told them, "it must have been the wind." that was obviously a lie.

It's my place that I can go if I don't want anyone to find me.

Now, why am I here. Helping y/n get to the tree house you may ask?

Well it's simple.

I want to find out her secrets without anyone else being there.

So, I helped her up and we both sat on the old carpeted floor.

"this is cool." she says.

Cool?

"I like to think so." I simply say.

"now why did you really move in with your aunt?" I know she's avoiding this question and I want to know why.

"I told you. My mom -"

"no", I cut her off, "I know you're avoiding answering this and I want you to tell me."

"uh" can she just answer already?

"answer the question y/n." I say.

"fine" she sighed.

"I'll tell you but you have to promise me that you won't tell anyone else." she sounds like she feels bad.

"okay I promise." I actually mean it.

She takes a deep breath before saying "my whole life I've gotten... Bad thoughts and I always knew that I shouldn't tell anyone about them or say it out loud."

Interesting...

"anyway, sometimes when I'm overwhelmed or really angry the thoughts get worse. So when my parents got divorced my mom drank a lot. When she drinks she either passes out or gets really annoying. My older sister just provokes her and then both of them start arguing. I usually go to my room or go on my phone. Y'know something to distract myself."

Yea I can partially relate to that part.

"on this specific day as they were arguing they noticed that I was on my phone. They grabbed it out of my hand and both of them started yelling at me. And I got mad - like REALLY mad. I tried to shut my mouth and not let the thoughts come out. Then I let it slip.. I threatened both of them-"

I interrupt her,"what did you say?"

"I really don't - "

I cut her off again."it's okay, tell me."

She looks down but still answers, "I threatened to snap both of their necks and burn their bodies." she mutters.

I start smiling.

She looks up. "why are you smiling?" she asks confused.

"you and I are more alike than you think."

"how so?" she asks.

"we're both crazy." I say whispering.

She slowly starts smiling too. Wow she has a nice smile.
