Nova was sat at the desk in front of Stiles in class when Scott finally walked in. Stiles had an annoyed look on his face and looked away from Scott. He was pissed at his best friend for allowing their father to get hurt in the midst of everything.
"Still not talking to me?" Scott asked, taking the seat behind Stiles. "Can you at least tell me if your dad's okay? I mean, it's just a bruise, right? Some soft tissue damage? Nothing that big? You know I feel really bad about it, right? Okay. What if I told you guys that I'm trying to figure this whole thing out, and...That I went to Derek for help."
"If I was talking to you, I'd say you're an idiot for trusting him," Stiles told him, never turning to look at him. "But obviously I'm not talking to you."
"Nova?"
"Idiot," Nova simply replied, agreeing with Stiles. There was a beat of silence after the bell rang before Stiles, sighing angrily at himself, turned around to face Scott.
"What did he say?" Stiles asked.
***
"He wants you to tap into your animal side and get angry?" Nova asked as they left class.
"Yeah," Scott nodded.
"All right, well, correct me if I'm wrong but everytime you do that, you try to kill someone, and that someone is usually one of us," Stiles said, gesturing between him and Nova.
"I know. That's what he means when he says he doesn't know if he can teach me. I have to be able to control it."
"How's he gonna teach you to do that?" Nova asked.
"I don't know. I don't think he knows either," Scott shrugged.
"Okay. When are you seeing him again?"
"Just told me not to talk about it. Just act normal and get through the day."
"When?"
"He's picking me up at the animal clinic after work," Scott said.
"After work. All right, well, that gives us to the end of the school day then," Stiles said.
"To do what?"
"To teach you ourselves," Nova said, walking ahead of them. She smiled as Isaac bumped his shoulder with hers as he walked past her in the busy hallway. She looked over her shoulder in time to see his smug wink before continuing to his next class.
"Ew," Stiles said, passing her. Nova just glared at her brother and continued on.
***
"I think the book's making it more obvious," Stiles told his best friend who was hiding from Allison behind a book. "Besides, she's reading, anyway.
"So, did you guys come up with a plan yet?" Scott asked, peeking over the book.
"I think so," Nova replied.
"Does that mean you don't hate me now?"
"No. But your crap has infiltrated our lives, so now we have to do something about it," Stiles said as he took a bite of his apple. "Plus we're definitely better Yodas than Derek."
"Okay, yeah. You teach me," Scott said.
"Yeah, we'll be your Yodas. Your Yoda I will be. I said it backwards."
"We get it, Stiles," Nova told him, annoyed.
"All right, you know what? I definitely still hate you," Stiles told Scott before turning to Nova. "I think I hate you too now."
"That was the goal," Nova smiled. Stiles stood up, snatching the book that was hiding Scott and walked out of the cafeteria, Nova following closely behind.
"Scott. Scott, wait," Allison called as she spotted Scott trying to make his escape.
***
"Okay." Stiles led Nova and Scott down to the lacrosse field. In his hands he held a lacrosse stick and a bag. "Now...Put this on." He held out a heart monitor to Scott.
"Isn't this one of the heart rate monitors for the track team?" Scott asked.
"Yeah, I borrowed it."
"Stole it," Nova and Scott corrected him.
"Temporarily misappropriated," Stiles told them. "Coach uses it to monitor his heart rate with his phone when he jogs, and you're gonna wear it for the rest of the day."
"Coach jogs?" Nova asked.
"Isn't that Coach's phone?" Scott asked, pointing to the phone in Stiles' hand.
"That, I stole."
"Why?"
"All right, well, your heart rate goes up when you go wolf, right?" Stiles asked. Scott nodded. "When you're playing lacrosse, when you're with Allison, whenever you get angry. Maybe learning to control it is tied to learning to control your heart rate."
"Like The Incredible Hulk."
"Kind of like The Incredible Hulk, yeah," Nova nodded.
"No, I'm like The Incredible Hulk," Scott grinned.
"Would you just shut up and put the strap on?" Stiles asked.
***
"This feels kinky," Nova said as she watched Stiles duct tape Scott's hands together behind his back.
"This isn't exactly how I wanted to spend my free period," Scott told Stiles, them both ignoring Novas dirty mind.
"All right. You ready?" Stiles asked, handing Nova the lacrosse stick. She hated playing sports but she had a great arm for throwing.
"No," Scott said.
"Remember, Don't get angry," Nova said. "I don't want to die today."
"I'm starting to think this was a really bad idea."
Nova scooped the ball on the ground into the net of the stick and threw it at Scott. Stiles monitored Scotts heart rate while Nova continued hurting her friend.
"Okay, that one kinda hurt," Scott admitted when the ball hit his face.
"Quiet," Stiles said. "Remember, you're supposed to be thinking about your heart rate, all right? About staying calm."
"Stay calm. Staying clam. Staying totally calm. There's no balls flying at my face. Oh! Son of a bitch!"
"I think my aims pretty good," Nova chuckled when the ball hit Scott in his balls.
"Stop. Just wait," Scott said after getting hit about ten more times. "Wait, hold on."
"Nova," Stiles said. He showed her his phone.
"Shit. Scott?"
They watched as he ripped the duct tape off his wrists and put his head to the ground. They watched as his heart rate went back down.
"Scott, you started to change," Stiles said.
"From anger. But it was more than thay," Scott told him. "It was like, the angrier I got, the stronger I felt."
"So it is anger, then," Nova said. "Derek's right."
"I can't be around Allison."
"Just because she makes you happy?" Stiles asked.
"No, because she makes me weak," Scott said.
