The heat of the summer was finally giving way to the more mild weather of fall. The leaves were changing, the evenings had a bit of a chill in the air, and fall activities were in full swing.
Jean's Instagram feed was filled with sappy posts from Mikasa, Eren, Marco, and Ben. Apple picking, hayrides, asking for couples costumes ideas, and of course homecoming.
Seeing those photos always made his heart sink a bit. But he didn't know why. He he seem to move on from Mikasa, and he still spent a decent amount of time with Marco.
Marco had wanted to go to Ben's homecoming dance, but he said he school had a strict rule about brining students from another school. He was bummed but was happy that he could bring him.
He and Marco had gone with a group last year, where they only actual couple at the time was Connie and Sasha, and Ymir, Historia, and Reiner doing a weird 3 way date. It had been a fun night.
This year their were going to be more couples. Jean was going with a girl he had been talking to for about a month, Carly Stratmann. She was cute, but he was learning that they didn't have much in common.
"Whatcha looking at Horseface?" Eren said as he sat down at their lunch table.
"None of your business dumba*ss" Jean shot back.
"Looking at Carly's insta" he said with a laugh.
Jean was surprised when he didn't start blushing. He also hadn't been looking at Carly's page.
"Man it sucks that Mikasa and Carly have 2nd lunch" Eren said opening a bag of Doritos.
"Mmhmm" Jean said picking at his PB&J.
"Ughhhh I swear Mr. Ackerman wants to torture us with these sentence diagrams" Marco groaned as he plopped down beside Jean. Mina and Sasha joined followed shortly by Connie.
"You two are lucky your not taking honors English" Marco said to Connie and Sasha. "If he's this brutal as a teacher, I'm nervous to see how he is as a coach"
"Yeah tryouts are going to be tough" said Eren.
"So are y'all going to Historia's party Saturday? here parents are out of town and it's gonna have like a ton of people their" Sasha said, almost polishing off her first roast beef sandwich.
"Ben and I are going" Marco said with a smile. "But he wants me to meet me there"
"I'm grounded" said Jean glumly. Back talking his dad the other night wasn't the smartest move.
"That sucks" Connie chimed. "We're going to be there he said motioning to Sasha"
"Mikasa and I are going to carve Halloween pumpkins that night" Eren said.
"Oh Connie and I did that for last week!" Sasha said.
"Yeah and they definitely looked frightening" Mina said laughing.
"I think Ben and I are going to go pick a pumpkin Sunday and carve it" Marco said wistfully.
Jean just focused on his sandwich.

The party was in full swing. Sasha was right, a lot of people were here. It didn't hurt that she was throwing the party with her older sister Frieda, so there were a lot of upperclassmen too.
Marco had texted Ben that he was here. But no response. Maybe he wasn't here yet.
Marco found Historia, hanging out outside with Hanna, Franz, Reiner, and Ymir. "Hey Marco!! Your here!!" She gave him a big hug.
