Y/n doesn't bother to stay and hear what Lando says. Instead, she walks straight out of the room and towards her office. She knows that he will immediately come to her, so she makes sure she has locked the door to prevent him from walking in.
There's a pounding at the door that she chooses to ignore, followed by multiple voices. Lando pleads with her to open the door, and although she doesn't want to, she proceeds to do it.
"Lando, please. Not now; I don't want to hear it." She quickly shuts the door again and hears Daniel tell him to give her space. When she realises that Lando is finally gone, she opens the door again to let Daniel in. He swiftly pulls her into a hug and shuts the door behind them.
She bursts into tears. How could she let herself trust another man? Another man has played with her emotions yet again. Daniel pulls her towards the sofa inside her office and lets her sob in his arms. They don't talk, just pure silence. After a few minutes, Y/n settles down. "Did you know?" she looks up at Daniel with bloodshot eyes. He hesitates, not wanting to hurt the girl any further; he looks all over the room before bringing his eyes back towards her, "Yes, I knew."
Moving away slowly and wiping her face, she presses for more information, "Why didn't you tell me?" He runs his hand through his hair, "I wanted to. That's what the tension was all about." She pauses for a minute and thinks back to when she was warned not to trust Lando. She thought it was because everyone wanted a chance with her the whole time, but it was because he was playing with her. "I don't understand; he did all these great things for me. Why would he do this?" Daniel's at a loss for words. Lando is still his friend, but he can't defend him for this.
"Honestly, Lando's young. He can be stupid sometimes and makes bad decisions in the spur of the moment. But I don't believe he feels the same way as he did before; I believe he genuinely likes you now. He said all those things before he met you, and I'm not trying to defend him here, but I do know Lando. He's not playing with you anymore, not at least from what I can tell," although Daniel wants his chance with Y/n, he does what is right. He wants to get the girl but doesn't want to play dirty.
She sits there, staring at the floor. She doesn't know what to say anymore. She doesn't know how to feel. This was her idol they were talking about. Her idol completely messed with her emotions and made her feel worthless. "Thank you for trying to push him to tell me; it shows me that you do care." Daniel nods, "Of course, Y/n, I care about you much more than you may realise." Without much thought, she puts both hands on his cheek and pulls his face towards her. As their lips touch, Daniel smiles slightly, but he pulls back. "No, Y/n. Not like this. I like you, but I can't know that this is happening while you're vulnerable. I'm not taking advantage like that."
She looks down again, embarrassed but understanding his point. He lifts her face to look directly into each other's eyes, "Let me take you out to dinner tonight. My treat. We'll see how things go then; it will, give you time to think things through, and if giving me a chance is what you want, I'm all for it." She nods, and he gets up and pulls her in for another hug. "I have a press conference to get to with the other drivers. So take care of yourself, okay?"
She nods and pulls him into another tight hug. She's thankful for how he is looking after her, but she doesn't exactly want to get involved with anyone else right now. First, the situation with Andrew and then Lando. She needs a break.
Daniel is seated next to Lando during the press conference, and all the drivers can tell that Lando is upset. Even the reporters are picking up on the change of behaviour from Lando. "For Lando, we've seen photos of you with a mystery girl lately. Any information on who she is and what she is to you?" All the drivers look directly at him while Lando looks toward Daniel. He's unsure of how to answer that question. Would she want him telling the media about who she is? What is she to Lando now after the events that just took place?
"The mystery girl, who I'll keep a mystery for her privacy, is our new head of HR at Mclaren. She's a friend, and she is getting to know Daniel and I and the rest of the team, which explains why she is around us so much." Daniel looks toward Lando and gives him a smile and a nod of approval. He respects his answer. "We've heard rumours that she lives at your place in Woking with yourself and Max Fewtrell and that you have been spotted kissing her on multiple occasions. Are these true or just rumours?"
"Out of respect to her, I won't answer any of that, and I'd like to ask for no more questions about her." Y/n is watching the press conference from her office. She appreciates Lando for his answers, but it is nowhere near enough for her to forgive him.
After the press conference, Lando attempts to talk to Y/n once more. She has had time to think over things and is ready to listen. "I truly am sorry, Y/n; I should've told you about it all earlier. I'm stupid, I made a mistake, and I'll regret it for the rest of my life."
Y/n doesn't respond but goes to sit on the sofa; Lando follows after he shuts the door and locks it so they can't be disturbed. She sits there in silence, fiddling with her hands. Finally, Y/n breaks the silence, "I saw the press conference..." Lando looks up at her, shocked that she spoke to him. "Thank you for what you said." He gives her a slight nod, not knowing what else to say.
"What exactly was the context of the conversation? What lead to you saying you're just playing with me?" Lando sighs; there's no easy way for him to tell her without sounding like a complete asshole. "I will be completely honest, but it won't sound great," Lando explained the whole situation to her, tears rolling down her face. "So what you're telling me is even after you knew that I was already practically in love with you, you only just wanted to have fun with me and then throw me away like a whore?"
"I didn't realise you were that serious about me at the time, and I also didn't realise I would fall for you too. As soon as I met you at that moment, I wished I had never said any of it. But, after that, my opinion completely changed, and I wanted you for more than just fun." She thinks for a bit, then questions him again, "if you went into this for fun, why did you get me the job at Mclaren?" He shakes his head, upset that she even had to ask, "I may have just wanted fun, but I'm not a complete asshole Y/n. You said that was your dream job; at least I wanted to make it come true."
This time, Y/n shakes her head, "it's tarnished now. So you think I want to continue working there, with you, after all this?" His head drops in disappointment; what has he done? "Don't leave because of me, Y/n, don't let me have destroyed this for you."
"I need some time, Lando. So I'll clear my things out of your room and find somewhere else to stay for the remainder of this weekend. Then, when we get back to Woking, I'll do the same at your apartment."
"If that's what you want, I'll respect it. When you're ready, I'll be waiting, though. I love you, Y/n, and I'm so sorry for everything.
They both stand up, and Lando begins to walk to the door. "Lando, wait." He turns and looks toward her. Y/n walks up to him and kisses him softly, "I love you too, Lando. I need my time to think about things." "It's okay; I respect it." He places one last kiss on her lips as they say their goodbyes.
Y/n isn't sure why she kissed him and told him she loved him. He doesn't deserve that hope she gave him. She isn't sure if she will forgive him, but she knows one thing: she loves him, and every inch of her wants to forgive him, but her brain is saying to run.
Oh no, Y/n is conflicted.
If you were Y/n, what would you do in this situation? Let me know; it may influence the outcome
How will she feel after her date with Daniel? Will she go to him instead?
