Sheila Oswald. the scientist assistant. As soon as she starts to ascend the steps, I can feel her. I recall that she and the others will bring a defenseless human into my cage so that I can feed them. They will entice me with months of hunger and purposely spill diluted blood on the floor if I reject their offer. I nearly lost my mind.
I would not have been able to escape that cage for years if it weren't for the janitor Lana. She was given to me as a reward by the scientist, who promised to make her into a blood bag for me if I helped them with my immortal blood throughout the trial. I don't even trust myself to not kill her in my current state, and she was aware of it. Lana is smart; rather of caving in to their demands, she arranged an escape that led to the downfall of the Lupin Corps. She also made a deal with me. It's an enticing offer.
The door closing made me think about Sheila Oswald once more. I can clearly see the bump on her abdomen even in the dark. Although the child is healthy, there is a problem. Her eyes widened in terror as she turned on the light. She dropped the grocery bag she was holding and it fell to the ground.
"Belmont!" She utter in a trembling tone.
"The time is now for you."
When I got out of the chair, she tried to get away, but she tripped over the can on the floor and fell to the ground. Although the infant is safe, she has lost strength as a result of intense fear.
"Please don't kill me." She seized me swiftly. "I was merely carrying out my duties as his assistant! I had no choice."
"I'm confident the innocent lives flung at me will testify to the contrary. You could have freed me from my captivity, but you chose not to. Is it correct to say that success and influence in the pharmaceutical industry are more significant than that?"
In denial, she shakes her head.
I take hold of her neck and press it just firmly enough to make her battle for breath since I don't want to dragged out the topic any longer. I let her go just to turn around and notice that a needle had been injected into my back just as I was about to make it worse.
"I can't allow you to do that. I'm sorry." Lana is standing behind me. The betrayal I didn't anticipate.
*******
Like a predator waiting for the ideal moment to strike, his eyes were fixed on me. But the drug I gave him was sufficient to render him unconscious for the evening. I simply need a little bit of time to free Sheila and find a place to hide. Simply assuming that Belmont would not hurt me in response to what I did to him would be foolish on my part. I fail to keep my word.
Sheila's hands are icy when I grab her on the floor, and I immediately assist her in grabbing her belongings nearby. Thankfully, she had her belongings still in the suitcase, which is on the couch. "We must leave. You can't stay here."
She gave a nod.
"Lana, don't get in my way...I...warned you."
I can tell he made an effort to resist it.
"It's not right, Belmont. Even for a being such as yourself." I wanted him to realise that killing an unborn child or a pregnant woman is the same as destroying our morals. She is no longer a danger to him.
While escorting her out of the house, I see him give in to the drug.
"Where are we going?" She enquired.
"Airport. You need to be out of the country."
We both immediately enter the taxi when it stops in front of us. I tell the driver where I'm going and keep checking to see if Belmont is still inside the house.
"I...I...don't...have...money to be in another state. Since the company shut down, I have lost my earnings." She stated in a quiet voice.
"Don't stress over it. I'll give you my money in the bag. Just be sure to remain undetected. Here," I hand her a black bag. "...change your identity if necessary."
Tears are pooling in her eyes.
"I recognize you..."
I remain silent.
"I apologise for what I did to you. I understand why these things are happening to me right now. You pleaded with me to save your life, but I disregarded you." Her hand catches some of her tears.
"Although what you did was wrong, I couldn't watch him kill your child. He would become the monster that you, the scientist, want him to be if he did."
"Thank you...for saving me,"
I kept my mouth shut. As soon as we got to the airport. I purchased two tickets, each with a distinct location.
I'm perfectly aware that betraying him will have consequences.
But I do what needs to be done.
And now it's time for me to head home, to return to the family I had been away from since my mother's passing.
Back to the real me...
