Chapter 1
Star and Michael were gone.
David and Dwayne had tracked them to the edge of Santa Carla, but they were too late to get the half vampires before the two had left their territory. Max had not been happy with the two vampires. David was lucky his sire didn't kill him and the others for this mistake. The only reason they were still alive or in Max's basement was because they were able to get the younger brother, Sam.
The fact Michael and Star had left Sam and the frog brothers to fight against the four vampires made David angry. Michael and Star had left these three as bait to keep the Lost Boys busy while they escaped. It was pathetic.
It was no surprise that Laddie had been left behind. Laddie was loyal to The Lost Boys and would never have let Michael take him from the cave if he had been conscious at the time. David took a deep breath and observed the sleeping child. Laddie was curled up on Maya's lap and refused to be alone anymore. Laddie's loyalty had grown as time went on. He could not be bribed to say anything to anyone about them. Laddie belonged to David, and he didn't share with those outside David's clan.
David's eyes went to the only vampire girl in the coven, Maya. She had been a mistake, but it had turned into the best mistake that could have happened. Maya came from an abusive home, and she craved the family that was lost at her mother's death. Her loyalty had been earned by showing that they cared about what she was feeling while she adjusted to being a vampire. Seeing her so weak after being attacked had scared David and the others completely. Even now, Dwayne refused to allow her or Laddie to be left alone. He watched as Dwayne's eyes shifted to where Maya and Laddie curled up on the couch as he read out loud from one of his books. They would not allow anyone to hurt their family again.
Dwayne and David turned to look up at the entrance of the cave as they heard the sounds of their brothers approaching. Paul and Marko appeared a few moments later carrying several boxes. They dumped them on the ground before moving to the couches that sat around the area.
"Did you get it all?"
Marko nodded his head "Everything Sammy had in his room that couldn't be used against us. We'll need to get him new clothes. Most of the clothes he wears are just pathetic."
Paul smirked and rolled his joint in his fingers. "True man. Sam's clothes are just ridiculous. I can't believe some of the junk."
David couldn't help but smirk. Sam wouldn't know what hit him when Paul and Marko started helping him find new clothes. Out of all the lost boys, those two were the most fashion fanatics about appearance. They even picked out Maya's, Star's and Laddie's clothes. Dwayne and David are the only ones who had put them in their place about clothing choices. It would be interesting to watch how Sam responded.
David lifted the cigarette and took a drag letting it out slowly. He needed to focus on the new problems before him. What to do with Sam?
Max still wanted Lucy as his but with Michael gone Sam would have to take Michael's place in the pack. If they could turn Sam to their side than his sire would be satisfied however if they failed Max would be furious.
David's eyes shifted toward the bodies of Edgar and Alan Frog.
'At least two of my problems are gone.'
David turned his gaze toward Maya "How are you feeling?"
Maya turned her eyes toward David. She sat up and lifted her shirt up showing the newly healed skin "Healed up after froggy blood"
David nodded his head. David stood as he felt the pull of the sun rising. He dumped his cigarette in the barrel fire. "Time to sleep boys and girl."
Dwayne frowned "What about Sam? The Frog Brothers?"
David glanced back at Dwayne "Sam will be fine in his cell till tonight. Maybe a day of isolation will do him some good. We'll get rid of the bodies' tomorrow night."
Dwayne frowned and looked at David. 'Laddie had been kidnapped once already. What was stopping it from happening again while we're asleep?'
David walked over to his brother and placed a hand on his shoulder. "They won't get near him Dwayne. He'll be safe in the back room near our new nest."
Dwayne nodded his head and picked up the child wrapping the blanket around him.
David rose in the air and flew to a poster hanging on the wall. He reached behind and pulled the corner up revealing an opening behind the poster. The others flew up behind him and followed him into the darkness. Marko tied off the poster to keep it flat against the wall. Once tied, he followed the others into the dark. No one would get back to them again.
Their new sleeping area had railings high in the roof with no access from the ground unless you flew. Halfway up the wall, a second area was big enough for a twin bed, a toy chest. Dwayne placed Laddie into his new room until other arrangements could be made.
The sun rose and the night creatures crawled back into the holes they hid in during the day. They glared and waited for the night to release them once again.
