The Waiting

Ching and Mint in a room in the uni.

"What do we do? Tsk... Why did you lose your fucking phone" - Ching

"Now you blame it on me! Fucking bitch you're just as much in trouble as I am!"- Mint

Both Ching and Mint instigated and posted remarks to Kao. They uploaded stuff that was overboard. Ching knew and messed with Kao's scholarship manipulating his records which the dean nor the board didn't know of. She had access to the office and went beyond his father's back to one of the boards of the school. Sneaking into the office replacing Kao's documents and fabricating a letter of disapproval for his scholarship grant. Mint had also helped her distract the dean that afternoon.

What they didn't know was their conversation was being recorded. Video evidence recording all of it from the storage closet.

The phone is being held by Bone and his fling of the day. He was startled when both entered the room. Abruptly as he was making out with his girl of the afternoon. They were both stuck in the cramped closet and his girl was scowling.

KHAI POV

"Dammit! Why can't you just understand!! This is not a phase! I am not some teenager out there who lacks your attention because let's face it ever since mom died you never cared anyway!!! I AM USED TO THIS SO LEAVE ME ALONE!! LEAVE KAO ALONE!" - Khai

Kao on my side grabbed my arm just to make me sit again. He was facing his head down but still, I know he is trying to calm me down. We were currently in the main house seated at my dad's office while my dad was at his desk.

I can tell he was hurt by all the things my dad said. And I want to defend him and take care of him.

"I do what you ask? I got my grades up, I don't skip classes anymore! Kao got me better! I don't drink anymore no girls no one-night stands just Kao alone!! Why can't you leave me be!!"- Khai

"Khai, you should understand that I only want what's best for you and give you whatever you want" - Dad

" BUT I WANT KAO!!!"- Khai

Kao flinched at my shouting, and he rubbed my arms.

"Khai calm down, he's your father" - Kao

"Khai, I want to talk to Kao can you leave the room" - Dad

"What so you'll threaten Kao, No!"- Khai

"Khai, it's okay ... I'm going to talk to your dad okay just wait outside."- Kao

"Kao?"- Khai

I was helpless I can't even say anything when Kao looked at me and smiled assuring me that it will be okay. I turned to my dad.

"If you hurt him..." - Khai

"I won't ... " - Dad
  
Then I left them, darting towards the kitchen to drink a glass of water. I felt like I'd shouted my lungs out. It was never supposed to happen but dad went out of his way to my dorm while Kao was there, we were a bit surprised good thing we are doing some school work that I had trouble with and he was teaching me. My room was a mess with all the papers and sticky notes scattered as we work on my project when dad came in, instinctively I hid Kao behind my back. Before we knew it we were already at my father's office being interrogated.

Our house helper appeared in the kitchen showing me her pleasant smile as she hugged me.

"Nana, how are you?"- Khai

"I am fine, what a fine lad had you become. I heard a little something" - Nana

She teased a little as she went to the sink to prepare food.

"Do you want sandwiches?"- Nana

"Sure Nana, what did my dad say that I was a spawn of evil or something" - Khai

I rolled my eyes.

"C'mon Khai don't be too hard on your dad he just cares for you a lot showing it the wrong way, you know he loves you just as much" - Nana

"And what give Kao a hard time, He is one of the board of directors of our school he knew what was up yet he turned a blind eye. I tried explaining to him about Kao's scholarship but he won't listen"- Khai

I whined at Nana and she just patted me on my head.

"You know your dad, he is a logical person it may take some time for him to accept that you came out like this, he thought it was just a phase for you. And about Kao he's not that bad I know your dad will see it." - Nana

"Nana ... I love Kao and seeing him lose everything as this hurts me, I don't care if I lose my cards my car even Chawee... I just don't want to lose him no, not like this. Kao will leave me because he'd be guilty of everything. It's painful I don't want to leave him suffering like this" - Khai

"You love him that much huh" - Nana

"I do.." - Khai

Because it felt different this time it felt as if my world would crumble if I don't hold on to that hand. It just happened without me knowing, I started to look for him in every person I meet, and seeing his smile makes me think that the asshole that I was deserved to be happy as well and I should be making it up to him. Even though we didn't meet in the best circumstances I hope for the better.

"You've grown up well child" - Nana

I smiled at her she was always the sweetest like a second mom to me. After a few minutes, Kao came down with dad.

"Khai, I think I have to go. I .. I'll see you later" - Kao

"Wait what happened Kao?"- Khai

"Khai I promise I'm okay, I just need some time alone could you give that to me?"- Kao

"Khai, Let him be. He needs time to himself" - Dad

"What did you say to him!"- Khai

"Khai, It's nothing okay. Just I'll text you later... I need to think first..." - Kao

He squeezed my hand and gave me an apologetic stare. Then bowed to my dad and Nana, then he went out.

"Dad?!"- Kha

My dad patted me on my shoulders.

"Son, he needs to solve his issues first just be a little patient for now. With you hovering around him everywhere would make it difficult for him too, please understand. It should not be only you who's into this but both. You will be in a position where people will scorn and look at you awfully" - Dad

"I am aware of that, I know I can't always protect him" - Khai

"It's good that you know, I am just concerned Khai" - Dad

"I'm sorry dad, for shouting" - Khai

"I know son, that's alright" - Dad

With that dad left and I was alone on the couch thinking, what would Kao do now? When I received a message from Bone with it a recording of a video.
I seethed as I listened through it all and it was one final straw that cut my patience and another message popped up.

"Khai, don't do anything rash. Please wait for me okay?"- Kao

I sighed Kao is too good, too nice for his good. I just wanted to keep holding his hand, as long as it gets I could wait even if it means waiting forever I would.
