Avery was shaken awake by her mom. "Wake up! You have 30 minutes to get ready for church!" "Ugh..It should be illegal to get up this early on a Sunday." Avery's mom rolled her eyes in annoyance. Avery stared at the ceiling before reluctantly getting up. She took off her sweater and sweatpants and put on a long brown dress. She sighed. "I hate wearing dresses." She said flatly

She walked from the hallway into the living room. She secretly slipped on her sneakers "Mom would never notice.." as Avery's mom walked out with her tan short coat dress-

Her mom immediately saw her shoes. "Avery Austin you do this every Sunday. Put on your boots or heels. Your going to church, NOT tennis practice." She lectured. Avery groaned as she kicked off her sneakers and stepped into her high boots.

Avery stomped out the door with her mom following behind. While in church they were singing. While reluctantly singing, Avery saw a really pretty girl about her age sitting next to her. Why hadn't she noticed her before? She had a perfect nose, perfect everything. Plump lips and thin eyes. No acne at all. Brown shoulder length hair with blonde streaks in it. She was wearing a tight black turtle neck with jeans. How did her parents let her dress like that to church? The girl caught Avery staring at her and she looked back and smiled. Avery blushed from embarrassment and quickly turned away. The girl chuckled softly before turning back and singing softly with her angelic voice. Was this girl a goddess? She seemed perfect.

After church Avery talked to her "H-hey..sorry I stared at you..I just thought you were pretty." "Oh you're fine! Lots of people stare at me in a judgmental way so i'm glad I'm having someone stare at me in a good way!" How could someone judge anyone like her?! "Haha..I'm...Avery!" Avery said as she extended her arm as an invitation for a handshake. The girl chuckled. "Eleanor. Nice to meet you!" She replied as she took Avery's hand and shook it. As their hands departed, Eleanor tucked her hair behind her ear. Avery saw the pearl earrings "I like your earrings!" She said "Oh! Hehe..Thanks. I only have one cuz I lost the other in here.." "Aw bummer! I hope you find i-" "Avery would you mind getting me my purse?" Avery's mom called, walking out the bathroom. "Oh! Sure, mom!" Avery said as she bent over to pick up the purse smushed under the bleachers. While pulling it out, she saw a small pearl under the bleachers. She took it out and dusted it off, handing it to Eleanor. "This it?" Eleanor gasped, taking it. "You found it!" She said in disbelief.

As Avery threw the purse to her mom from the top of the bleachers, Eleanor grabbed Avery and squeezed her. "Thank you thank you thank you!!!!" She squealed. "These were my grandmother's. She gave me these earrings before she passed away so they mean a LOT to me!! How could I ever thank you?!" "Oh you don't need t-" "How about this? I take you out to dinner. My treat! I'll pay with my allowance! I've been saving it for years and I work so it'll be no biggie!" "Oh! Eleanor you really don't have t-" Avery tried to reason before Eleanor put her finger on her lips "Shhh! Don't try to talk me out of it! We're meeting at the Café Chic diner on Parsington street tomorrow at 5:00 if you can!" She interrupted as she took her finger off Avery's lips. Avery quickly calculated. "Well I have tennis after school and it ends at 4:00.." she sighed "Alright. If it makes you happy." "Yay! See you there Avy!" She called before hopping down the bleachers and skipping away. For some reason Avery was fixated on what she was gonna wear for once. It was like she wanted to impress her new friend. Hmm..
