"Find anything yet?" You asked Jason while rummaging through files yourself. The two of you were in between two bookshelves full of folders and folders of information. The two of you were on a mission for Intel about a certain baddie in town that had wiped anything about their existence online...So you resorted to the old school way of research. Not to mention that you weren't in any ordinary library...It was the library in the criminal's home.

You had followed the criminal home a couple days ago and found that he had a "regular" looking life with a wife and kids but a whole basement to hide his other hobbies. It was night and no one was home. Well other than you and Jason, who had broken into his basement.

"Ugh this shit is useless. My bet is the whole family is in on it." He dropped the file he was looking in and walked somewhere else to investigate.

You laughed and responded. "The baby too?"

"Dude the baby is the most guilty. He's the one behind everything." His voice became quieter as he walked away.

After a few minutes of silence you heard him speak in the distance.

"Something's wrong."

Your eyes didn't leave the file you were looking at, it had details of a plan that was dated for tomorrow. All of this seemed way too easy anyway.

"What? You think the baby's watching us?" You spoke back before folding the plan and sticking it in one of your thousand pockets.

Before either of you could speak again, Jason put a finger over his mouth to signal you to be quiet. You stopped in your tracks and watched him slowly turn his head back to you. The silence allowed you to hear a faint ticking noise.

"Fuck it's a trap I knew this was too easy!"

Both of you agreed there was no time to investigate. You groaned before running back up the stairs with him and jumping out the window as a bomb exploded the entire house. The blast pushed you and Jason into a bush and he quickly moved himself over you to protect you. After the blast, the house was left ablaze. Jason rolled off of you and got up quickly before offering a hand to you to help you up.

"You're good?"

"Yeah I'm-"

You turned and looked back up to Jason, with a couple of tears in his suit and a large fire behind him.

-----

Suddenly you were no longer on the floor in front of a mansion. Jason was not standing tall and strong in front of you. The only thing that didn't change was the amount of flames and the smell of burning wood. It was still night time and you were now walking through a burning warehouse, chasing after Bruce and looking for Jason.

"Jason! Jason!" You heard Batman call, running around the remnants of the warehouse and pulling around debris in desperation. You stopped running for a moment and closed your eyes and prayed he was okay, that it was all a sick nightmare and you'd wake up and see him again. You opened your eyes and suddenly the calls for him stopped. In the distance, Batman was holding him in his arms.

You slowly approached the two of them and dropped to your knees. You didn't need Bruce to tell you he was dead, his expression said everything you needed to know. The sight was eerie and there was so. much. fire. Tears flooded your eyes as you shook your head in denial and dropped your head to the floor.

-----

"....Y/N? Come on we got to go-" His hand was in the same place in front of you, offering to pull you up.

You blankly stared up at the house ablaze behind Jason with tears in your eyes and your heart pounding. The smell of burning wood and the heat of the flames overwhelmed your senses.

"So..Much...Fire.." You spoke slowly and weakly

"What..? What's wrong? Oh....Come on let's get you out of here."

It took Jason a moment to realize what was happening before he quickly pulled you up and took you to his motorcycle. You clung onto him with an instinct and he drove away quickly. He had his own battles with trauma and had recognized the symptoms of an attack but hadn't seen them in someone else for a long time until now. The two of you stayed silent until you reached an empty road.

"....Big Belly sound good?" Before even hearing your answer, he changed directions and began making his way to the Big Belly Burger drive thru.

"Yeah...Yeah that sounds good."

-------

The two of you had finally reached your shared apartment with two bags of fast food. He held the bags and you both entered with haste. You closed the door and locked it while he put the bags on the counter and began pulling out your burgers and sides. You let him take care of it and sat down on the couch and wrapped yourself up in a blanket.

Jason soon after approached with plates and drinks for both of you and placed it on the coffee table. You put on something random on cable and the two of you began eating.

"Do you wanna talk about it..?" He hesitantly asked.

"I...It just reminded me of something I didn't want to remember."

He stayed silent to invite you to continue to speak.

"The night you died."

Jason stopped eating his burger and turned to face you with a sad look on his face.

"When we were looking for you in the building, everything was still on fire.- This is dumb. Why do I feel this way? I'm sorry for being dramatic, you're the one who got tortured not me. I'm not trying to make this about myself I just- "

He stopped you by placing his burger down and grabbing your hands softly.

"You're adorable."

He then went back to crunching on some fries and you rolled your eyes, his insult cracked a small smile from you.

"How so?" You grabbed your drink and sipped it from the straw.

"You can't just bottle things up all the time because you don't think it's important. I care about you and you should feel comfortable talking to me about these things. Let me be here for you."

"Thanks Jason ...I think you're adorable too."

"How so?" He mocked you playfully.

"For only ordering small fries for the both of us."

He looked down at the plate to notice that you had eaten the rest of the fries while he was talking.
