It's been a few days since Marie had actually felt the warmth of the sunlight after what she had encountered that one eventful evening. After hectic scrambling to get her into an ER for her missing organs and flesh, and the eventual realization that this was now her "normal" despite her files regarding her quirklessness. Though with that said...she became a genetic anomaly for the public to dissect, as much as you can dissect and walking cadaver (even if technically she wasn't one anymore)
For the first few days, she was medically strapped down to monitor her vitals to the best of their abilities. Her heartbeat that came from the heart within her was considered normal, albeit odd with the skull shaped heart, and her bloodflow was seemingly normal as, upon closer inspections, despite the whole lack of a torso outside of a skeletal frame, ethereal veins seemed to stretch from said heart and supply blood to her still living appendages and brain, and despite frequent attempts, none could touch said veins. It was strange to even Marie herself, yet she still felt...normal in a sense. Outside of those tests, she was fitted as a clean bill of health amongst the medical staff at the hospital.
After medical test after medical test, came the quirk study. Of course it would have inevitably come to this. A quirkless gaining a power on what should have been their death, according to heroes and the police? Unheard of in their world. Plus a quirk that purely operates under the assumption of death occurring within that persons life is just...impossible, to say the least. She was oftentimes bombarded by interested quirkologists and studiest types to ask of what it was like for her to gain her quirk, with her having to silently stare in confusion and worry before they were sent away by the more caring staff of the hospital, especially a mother by the name Midorya.
In fact, on the first day of her inauguration to this hospital, that woman was the first to check on her more than anyone else in the hospital, her speaking about how she was and caring for her almost like she wished her mother would have done. It felt so...liberating. After that, she would speak about events in her life, and her own boy who was oftentimes bullied for his quirklessness..yet he wouldn't dare let go of his dreams to be a hero. That was a time where she actually cried in her arms, as she herself felt deep down that same feeling...only this time, she was abandoned and left alone, all while this young mother dared to take the risk of keeping her son and never regretted it. Marie wishes this was her mother instead of that bastardization of one back in the mainland of her own home.
Back to her testings though, things were...well, a struggle to grow accustomed to. She frequently reminded the staff of the hospital, outside of Inko when she monitored, that she had just gained her quirk and had not a clue how it worked, all the while the testers seem to impatiently act as if she never said it before. It was frustrating to say the least. She would be told to do a number of actions, such as hand gestures, movements, etc, all in the name of pinning down what she could do and couldnt do with the tests provided. Of course she found a number of things, such as levitation, summoning of skeletal remains, skulls, and oversized leviathans of corpses, and found she could disassemble her form at a moments notice...yet all of that felt like second nature to her, despite the sudden surfacing of this power. She didn't tell the hospital of course, due to her paranoia of them using her, so she just quietly showed it off and acted suprised in accordance.
When testing was done, she was sat down into a hospital room and told to simply await for the doctors and quirk study types to finish writing her new medical report and quirk as a freshly laidened study of her power. She simply laid in her bed with a sigh, closing her tired eyes as she stared up to the ceiling, taking note of the stake air of the hospital that reminded her so much of her "home" back in every orphanage she was a part of. Loneliness settled in slowly yet naturally as she just placed her hands on her stomach, her calmly breathing in and out of her lack of lungs, and her accepting whatever reality may come from after all this...
And then the door opened, revealing the soft looking eyes of that Midoriya nurse who managed to take a liking to the cadaver in the bed
"..hello, miss..Marie, was it? Or do you prefer Korbel?"
Marie slowly sits up and looked over to the woman, her deep red eyes, which she had noticed changed with the awakening of her power, looked at the woman with her tired softness
"...Marie is fine, miss. You've been quite nice to me, and my last name is...one I don't frankly enjoy."
Inko made a soft sigh as she gently nodded and shut the door, with her slowly moving to sit at the side edge of her bed. She held her freshly made papers and documents, yet seemed to be hesitant on something
"...I could tell from your report as to why....to be honest, your whole experiences and such is...what I feared for my son."
Marie looked upwards to the mother with a look of gentleness as the mother had spoken out towards her
"...imagine my shock to learn that this American born girl was...well...t-treated like this. I never would have wished for my son to even encounter such a fate in his lifetime...not in the slightest."
She seemed to sniffle and look as if she was about to cry. Marie winced and gently laid a hand upon the woman, a softness and tenderness in her heart growing as she looked to her, with Marie speaking back to assure her of her place
"...I am fine from that experience, miss Midoriya. My suffering and loneliness inevitably brought me to where I am. Don't cry for me, please. I'll be fine."
Inko had nodded, yet still looked hesitant to go, to leave...she softly looked up and gently placed a hand on Marie's own.
"...I've gotten news from your orphanage...over the last few days they...managed to kick you out. While it feels a bit wrong to force you into a family i... I can offer my home to you. Free of charge and all. I'd rather you n-not be on the streets and...with someone who would care for you, Marie.."
She was takne aback by her kindness, yet she softly looked upwards and nodded assuredly
"You've show me kindness, Midorya. I'll gladly take your offer...but let me keep my name. I wish to not shoehorn my life into your familial legacy..and I always wish to be reminded of my life beforehand."
Inko made a solemn nod, a gentle smile escaping her lips as she sniffled
"..your a sweetheart, you know that? I just wish you weren't so..serious. tells me that you had to...endure things others shouldn't at your age. Take care."
With that, Marie stared as her new guardian had slowly walked off, her knowing full well this woman was adopting her. Marie felt soft tears evade her eyes as the door closes, and she felt peace enter her heart. She found a family for once in her life and she...would never take it for granted.
