Withered

Pants and gasps filled the surroundings as Aether tried his best to catch his breath and dodging yet another one of the herald's attacks. His speed decreased tremendously allowing some of the slashes nicks his skin.

He needed to survive this. To see another day. To see his sister, Lumine again. At the thought of her, his eyes watered. Oh, Lumine. Where are you? I want us to be together again. To be whole again. Ever since they got separated, Aether has always felt like something in him was missing.

His heart.. it felt numb. And while Paimon has been nothing but a good friend to him, she still cannot fill the hole lumine left gaping. Day by day the hole kept getting bigger. Day by day, his hope dimmed. He dreaded his end without seeing Lumine one last time. He was then snapped out of his train of thoughts when the herald's scratching voice reached his ear.

"It is unbelievable for you to be her highness' kin with how inferior you are," the herald took slow steps towards Aether.

Aether senses the herald getting closer to him. There was, unfortunately nothing he can do as he kneels panting heavily. His vision started to blur from the lack of oxygen. He tries to form words however, his throat was extremely parched from the fight. He managed to direct a weak scowl towards the advancing herald.

Seeing this, it laughed, "You are a thorn to her highness' plans to the throne." The herald raised its bladed hand only to swiftly slash Aether's throat. Aether felt his neck getting wet with blood pouring out of the cut. He gagged on his blood. He tried to cup the cut but alas, the injury was lethal. He can hear his heartbeat beating loudly in his ear.

He teared up in realization. 'Ah, i'm going to die..' He teared up even more. In his last moments, he thought he saw lumine, shining with a bright white halo behind her. He thanks the archons who allowed him to at least hallucinate of her with him in his last moments. Few moments later, his breathing stopped. His body laid there full of blood. However, he has a smile on his face.

Lumine who felt their twin connection snapped somehow teleported to Aether. She saw his last moments however, she does nothing but stand there as Aether's breathing shallowed. A tear fell from her eye. "I'm sorry Aether. For I cannot allow you to disrupt my plans." She swiftly turns her back on him as he slowly become particles of element.
