He had the feeling that he took this mission far too lightly. He just didn't see any danger coming from this building, which was filled with very few people. And he was not worried, mainly because he knew that the person next to him could take care of himself.
They were in the middle of the hallway of the not-so-deserted building. The residents, of course, had confronted them. It would have been strange if they had not come to defend their territory. But they were now lying on the floor in front of the two world travelers, helplessly suffocating.
Diluc sent Venti a look. A hint of surprise was mixed in. The bard did this with such ease that he was yet again reminded that this person before him was in fact a god. No matter how weak he made himself look at times.
"Let's keep moving" he shook off the feelings that were welling up inside him and stepped over the dying bodies. "And don't kill them" he said as he passed. After all, the OSSM still wanted these people.
"That wasn't my plan either" Venti's voice sounded behind him as he followed.
The hallway was dark. A small flame in Diluc's hand lit their way. The walls were bare, the old wallpaper torn from the walls and covered with graffiti.
"Where to?" the redhead asked quietly.
"There seems to be someone in the basement" is what he got as an answer. He nodded.
The two walked through the building. Every now and then they were confronted by the inhabitants. But they quickly found the stairs that led to the basement. Somewhat hidden but still easy to find. Especially with Venti in the team.
The stairs were made of old wood, which creaked loudly under their weight. These had also seen better days. Just like everything else in this house.
In contrast to the rest of the house, the hallway in the basement was lit with bright white industrial lamps. Even if the only thing it did was make the ugly gray walls more visible. These were surprisingly spared the graffiti that plagued the rest of the house.
The two outlanders looked at each other. Venti opened his mouth to say something, but before a sound left his mouth, one of the doors that decorated the basement hallway suddenly opened.
Out came a person, a man, who took a moment to notice that someone was in the hallway with him. It took him another second to realize that they were unknown individuals, and immediately his aura became hostile.
"Who are you?" he asked with a growling undertone in his voice. He had short blond hair and piercing blue eyes. His eyebrows were furrowed.
"Oh we?" Venti stepped towards him lightly "Would you believe me if I said we were here for sightseeing?" he asked. The blond's eyes tightened, not that that stopped Venti from talking.
"I must say, the house is clearly run down, which is why I don't think it's worth much anymore. But maybe..."
"That's enough," the stranger cut him off, his hand tightening. "I know exactly who you are."
Venti tilted his head.
"vermins, like the others of your kind" he said spitefully "to think you'd crawl here with your own feet. You really learn something new every day"
His eyes tightened "What do you want?"
Venti was amazed that it was possible to talk surprisingly well with this person. Ignoring the insults, at least this person didn't rush into a fight like a headless chicken. Well, but at the same time, this person clearly seemed to underestimate him.
Unless of course, his mind wandered back to a certain black haired man, its the same case here.
Although, he dismissed that idea again. Because then this person would have no reason to call him a vermin.
