Dean

When I wake up the next morning, all I hear is silence. I fell asleep to it, and now I wake up to it. In all my four years, this has never happened.

I get out of bed and grab my sweater off the back of my chair. My phone tells me that the time is just past noon. I'm supposed to be at the gym in thirty minutes. A burst of energy rushes through me as I run through my small room, getting everything I need for the next three hours. I have my shirt, my shorts, my water bottle, my towel, my ID, and my bag. I start stuffing things inside it without realizing how much noise I'm making.

I hear a soft knock on my door as I close my bag and sling it over my shoulder. I open the door and see Castiel standing outside it with his hair all tousled up and sleep still lingering in his eyes.

"Are you okay?" His scratchy voice just barely gets out.

"Uh, yeah? Why wouldn't I be?"

"You were making a lot of weird sounds. I thought maybe someone was chasing you around." He looks past me, seeming to double-check that I'm okay.

"Oh, no. I just remembered I have to be somewhere in-" I check my phone again, "fifteen minutes."

I move past him and grab a banana and some kind of granola bar thing from the counter. "It's the first day on campus. What do you need to be at already?"

"Most of the guys live on campus or much closer now, football practices start earlier and go later. Coach says that we are going to have a tough season with some of the other teams' new players. He wants us to be ready."

I open the door and catch him staring at me. "You play football?"

I just smirk before I close the door and sprint in the direction of what is sure to be a very angry middle aged white man about to call me late.

When I finally get back to my room, it's seven. I put all my things inside my door and rush through a shower. Coach wasn't impressed with my punctuality (or lack there of), so I got to stay an hour later to run suicides.

When I'm done and dressed, I walk out to find Castiel in a very over-sided hoodie watching Netflix in the living room. He's sitting on what seems to be a brand new, huge bean bag. It practically engulfs him. I sit on the couch across from him without saying anything.

"I logged into my account. I don't care if you use it, just make your own profile so I don't mess up my preferences and my spots in shows. Oh, and the bean bag is for free use, just no- um- explicit activities on it please."

     "I promise." I laugh.

I look at the screen to see what he's watching. I have never seen it, but I think it's one of those rom com movies. The pretty girl is walking down the street and the man is chasing after her. He catches up and makes a remark that makes the girl smile. I can't think of why that would be funny or sweet, so I decide that it must be from an exchange earlier in the movie that I didn't see.

"I can turn on something else-" he starts to reach for the remote.

"No, no please. I interrupted you." He stares at me. Directly into my eyes. It seems like he's trying to understand.

Minutes pass as I try to piece together the plot. It's more complex than I thought. Apparently, this dude is like a super rich asshole that needed this woman to help him lie to his ex so they're in a situationship, which is a word that I just learned today. Castiel seems to really like it.

I get up to make some popcorn while still watching from the kitchen counters. I ask him to turn it up a bit and he does. As I get the things together, we watch and criticize the love interest's 'come back to me' speech. We both decide she could do better.

I had Castiel a popcorn bag. "Why did she end up with him? If he truly liked her, he wouldn't have made the mistake of kissing that other bitch."

He shakes his head. "No, because they weren't in a relationship and he didn't really mean to. It was a miscommunication. He didn't intend to kiss her. That's why the end is so good."

I shake my head this time. "That would never happen in real life. If I kissed another girl and my girlfriend found out, she would dump me on the spot and block all forms of communication."

"But he loves the other girl. You don't get it." He picks up the remote and starts scrolling through his recommended list. "Do you want to pick one?"

     "Nah. I trust you."

No one else has moved in by the fourth day of us living here, and classes start in three days. Castiel and I make a pact that if no one else moves in the rest of the year, we get to split the other rooms and do what we want with them. We also make a plan on how we want to split the bathrooms.

It isn't until we have a knock on our door at eight o'clock at night are we sure what's happening.

Castiel and I are sitting in the little living room in our respective zones. We both hear the knock, but Castiel's demeanor tells me that I am the one that is going to have to answer it. We both get up and he takes his place behind the hallway wall so that whoever is at the door can't see him.

When I open it I see a perky, short, blond woman standing there with a clipboard in her hands. She has a fake smile stretching across her face as she pushes past me to stand in our kitchen.

"Is your other roommate," She checks her clipboard, "Cas-teal, here?"

He comes out from behind the wall as I shut the door. I gesture to him and she seems content. She pulls out one of the chairs at our tiny table and sits down.

"Wonderful! Okay boys, come sit." She looks like she's younger than me, but she somehow. manages to talk down to me all the same. We do what she says anyways. "So, I have some good news for you. The three other boys that were supposed to live here were triplets, but they decided to actually go somewhere else. Because of how many people were accepted into this particular dormitory and how many people are attending this year, we don't have anyone else to fill these rooms."

Castiel and I look at each other. He shows just a faint smile before turning his attention back to the woman. "So, it's just Dean and me? All year?"

She nods so hard I think her head might fall off. "That's correct! We wanted to make sure you knew not to expect anyone else. It isn't unheard of for strangers to stop in off the street and say they are your roommate if they hear of a vacancy. So, don't let anyone in!"

She looks me up and down before we all stand up to lead her out of the room. She waits for me to open the door for her, we say our goodbyes, and she makes the hand gesture for 'call me' as she walks out the door.

As soon as I close the door, we start to laugh. Castiel even cheers. "We don't have roommates!"

We decide to celebrate with some more popcorn and a movie. In between scenes with characters I can barely tell apart, I look over at my only roommate for my last year at this school. If this is who I'm stuck with for the rest of the year, I think I'll be okay.

Another chapter down! I can't wait to start adding little cute scenes. Should I make Dean have an actual girlfriend at first or should it be more of a hypothetical for the aforementioned girlfriend? I think I'm leaning on the side of a real girlfriend for the time being. I'm so excited for Cas's chapter being next. I think he's my favorite. He reminds me a lot of someone I used to know, so I write him like I would write her. Thank you for sticking with me!
