Henry sat back down in the gilded chair and put his face in his hands. Elisabeth wanted to speak but had no idea what to say so she stood still rooted to the spot watching him. The silence continued on for a while.
" Hal" she whispered he looked up and she thought her heart would break from the look he gave her, she found she had lost control of her body and ran to his side kneeling by the chair she put her hand on his arm. A servant had lit a fire in the stone fireplace at the end of the small chamber. In the firelight his eyes glowed as if they were on fire before she knew what she was doing she kissed his lips, a look of shook ran across his face as she pulled back
" I'm so sorry" he grabbed her arm pulling her back towards him cupping her face and kissed her back with intent. His soft lips crushing hers.
"You have never looked more beautiful than you do now" he whispered against her neck " God I love you Elisabeth" Elisabeth said nothing she wanted to savior this moment, wanted to forget he was a King and that he was going to marry another woman. She pulled back getting to her feet glancing towards the doors she said nothing as she walked opening them and whispered to the guards before shutting the door again.
He watched her a brow raised in confusion but his eyes glistened in amusement. She walked back to him and held out her hand to him " for tonight, I need my farmer" she whispered his brows raised but he took her hand in his and got up from the chair kissing her passionately guiding her to a soft white rug in front of the fire.
Together they collapsed all night making love, until the fire died and the sun's rays gently warmed them as they lay in each others embrace, it shone through the high windows, gently caressing their skin.
A rug was the only thing covering there modesty as they both lay in silence, wide awake listening to the sounds of the servants and the Chateau coming alive, the birds in the trees and the cracking of the embers in the dying fire.
Elisabeth broke the silence between them, saying what they both knew she would say and both knowing that in their hearts it wasn't what they wanted. Elisabeth refused his betrothal to her and said she wasn't going to Paris and would go straight back home to England.
He had remained silent but nodded. Elisabeth didn't know if she would ever see him again, if she would ever attend court, could she even face seeing him and Catherine?
If she had to witness things like him holding her hand or kissing her, she knew at that moment in time she wouldn't be able to bare it.
