I was led into a room where I had to stand and stare at the door. that is what I was doing for about an hour, I was a little startled when the door opened.
Out walked the queen and a raggedly dressed girl. I approached them hesitantly.
The queen ran towards me. "Brother!" She jumped onto me, knocking me backwards. I chuckled, adjusting and holding her.
"It's been a long time, your majesty." I bowed importantly to my sister. she was insanely childish around me. glancing up at the other girl, I wasn't quite impressed. She had to be about my age. I wondered if she was an apprentice.
I approached her and kneeled, taking her hand like a gentleman should, and kissing it. Her expression was somewhat surprised, but that was expected judging by the way she dressed and looked. She was obviously poor.
"And what is your name, my darling?" I asked.
Her face turned red, and she seemed a bit flustered.
"I- my name is Coran."
The queen ran up to me excitedly.
"You are being rude, sir! Coran is a boy!"
My eyes widened. this lovely person was obviously a female. I could tell these things easily.
Coran stood silent, staring at me.
I chuckled slightly and stood.
"I apologize for my sister. she is a strange person, but she deserves the utmost respect."
Coran finally spoke. I was expecting her voice to be shaky or nervous, but it was a mix of firm and smooth.
"If you don't mind the question, why are you not the king? You are obviously the older brother."
Her words pierced me more than they should have, but I remained easygoing.
"I was actually banned from the eyes of the public." I stood and brushed myself off. " because of my eyes."
She stared at me for a while.
"So? What wrong with your eyes? I think they are quite attractive."
She seemed to be complimenting me, but I couldn't tell because she had a blunt expression and confused eyes.
"Red eyes and white hair are signs of demons." The queen explained. "People wouldn't want a devil for a king."
Coran's eyes widened.
"But... Is that just because he's different?"
The queen laughed. "obviously he's different. my brother had a terrible encounter with a wizard when he was a child. These days-"
"It's not a big deal at all, your highness." I inturrupted.
I felt a sadness from this encounter. I smiled anyway, and bowed to Coran.
"My true name is usoph. it is a pleasure to have-"
The guard took my shoulder.
"Time's up, devil."
The queen chuckled. "Have fun, brother!"
She laughed as I walked back through the doorway, through the hall, and into the room I would spend the next few months in.
A man sat there, smiling devilishly.
"So," he said in a greasy voice. "Tell me about Coran..."
