The sun beams tried to breach my eyelids, but the pain in my head kept them shut. My body felt sweaty and gross, but the sheets around me were probably the softest I'd ever felt.
Thinking back on the last thing I remembered, everything came back like a punch to the gut.
Mom. Ryan. Where the hell even am I?
The thoughts began to overwhelm me, and now that all my adrenaline was gone, I felt sick to my stomach and weak. Just as I was about to get up and look around the room I was in, the door creaked open. "She's been asleep for two days!" I heard a familiar husky voice declare.
"Then take her to a hospital? I don't see why you are so skeptical about them." Another man's voice perked up.
"Not happening, you know that's in Russian territory. If there's any connection between us, she's as good as dead." Leo immediately shut down the solution.
"I'll call the doctor again; we'll have him put in an IV." Leo continued, and to my dismay, I immediately shot up.
"There's no need for that," I announced, making them aware of my eavesdropping. They both turned to face me, and I felt a little self-conscious being between two good-looking men, who knows what I looked like now after, apparently, days of being sickly and fatigued.
"Now if you boys could stop staring and show me where the restroom is, that'd be lovely," I said trying to escape this awkward scenario. I still had no idea where I was, except that it wasn't a hospital.
Finally looking around the room I could tell whoever's room this was had money. The king-sized bed almost swallowed me up, and the 1500 thread count sheets felt like silk on my gross body.
The room was modern and minimal, almost an entire wall lined with windows seemed to lead to a balcony. There were a few plants in the corners and on the tables in the room and the room itself looked tidy and cleaned regularly.
To my pleasure, I swung my feet off the bed and touched the carpet below, which was probably the fluffiest thing my toes had ever felt. I could sleep better on the rug than on my bed back home.
Home.
I pushed back thoughts of my house and mom until I got out of there, I could not show weakness. The other man had stepped in front of me, I'd met him before in the restaurant with Leo, Renzo I think his name was.
"I'd happily guide such a lovely woman anywhere in the world." He stated holding his arm for me to grab onto. I chuckled, just as I was about to latch onto him, my hand was snatched away by Leo, who helped me to my feet.
I was bewildered by whatever the hell these two were up to, but I cared more about getting to the restroom and going home. Carefully he led me to the bathroom, which was just as expensive as the room and well-kept, it looked as if no one had ever been in there.
After I finished my business, I went to the sink and looked at myself in the mirror hanging above the sink. Holy shit. I looked like a raccoon that had been hit on the side of the roadway.
The dark circles under my eyes contrasted against my skin to make my pale green eyes look brighter.
My dark brown hair which cascaded down my back days ago, smooth and vibrant, now looked like a rat had made a home in it.
My once pale skin was gross from sweat, dried blood, and natural oils. I tried my best to wash my face and comb my hair with my fingers, but what I really needed was a shower. However, I need to get out of here first.
After taking one last glance at my disgusting state, I opened the door back to the room. Both guys were staring directly at me. "You're going to burn a hole in me at this rate. When can I go home?" I said trying to ignore how uncomfortable I was.
"We need to talk about what happens next." Leo had spoken up first. Huh, what did he mean? I thought that my confusion must have been present on my face because he continued. "Well, I let the rat go, but you still owe me my money, so I can't just let you leave," Leo said dismissively.
"So, you're going to hold me hostage? How am I supposed to get the rest of the money if I can't leave?!" I exclaimed, not even wanting to wait for his response. "What about my job, or my bills, or Mom's funeral proceedings?"
Does he really think he can lock me up here because I was short a couple extra grand? I was pissed and it showed, however, Renzo looked amused at my outburst.
"Look Principessa, someone just happened to show off to my men that they were trying to cheat me out of my money, so now I can't just let you go. About getting the rest of the money, we can find you something to do. There's always work to be done." Leonardo stated.
The young woman was fuming, but she was so small it was kind of cute how she attempted to be intimidating while resembling a bunny. Leo had thought to himself.
Leonardo's interest only peaked when I turned around and locked myself back in the bathroom. Both Renzo and Leo had held back chuckles, but before they could I peeked my head out.
"Where are the towels, if I can't go home, I at least want to shower," I question still aggravated by the situation, but in desperate need of a shower. "Top shelf." Leonardo firmly stated.
After once again disappearing and locking the door behind me, I turned the water on. Before I jumped in what was now steaming water wanting to wash away all the pain and stress my body was feeling I hear Renzo speak up. Quietly I shifted back to the door to listen.
"I guess she's fine, honestly though Leo what's your plan? It's not like anyone cares about the money, so explain." Renzo had commented a giant grin spread across his face. "Surely you're not interested in her?" Renzo mocked. I heard Leo stand up and throw something at Renzo.
"Get her some clothes, and don't ask stupid questions. I let that little thief go so the total debt has increased, that's all." Leo had finished, slamming the door behind him as he left, and going back to doing God knows what.
I sighed, how much had my debt increased, and how the hell would I get out of here?
With that thought brushed to the side of my thoughts, I stepped into the now scolding water, not caring about the third-degree burns I'll leave with. It felt like heaven after the past few days.
