Bryce sat quietly on his bed, the clinking of plates and sink water echoed from his small kitchen and into his bedroom. It was Liam's turn to do the dishes, and in the meantime Bryce decided to finally clean out his phone. Bryce scrolled through the many song playlists he'd made over the years, deleting old ones he didn't listen to anymore as he went. He suddenly stopped, his eyes landing on a very specific playlist. "Holy shit-" he muttered under his breath, tapping the playlist and looking through the songs.
Liam had turned off the sink by then and was now standing at the entrance of Bryce's room. "What's that?" Bryce snapped his head up at Liam's sudden presence, glancing back down at his phone. He hesitated before speaking. "It's an old playlist my sister made...she got tired of her song recommendations being buried by messages so she made a playlist for me to listen to instead." Bryce smiled fondly at the memory. It had been a while since he thought about her...at least without breaking down anyway.
"What songs are on there?" Liam walked to Bryce's side, leaning over his shoulder to read the songs listed. "I'm not sure really. I don't even know most of these." Bryce scrolled to the end of the playlist and back again, reading every single song his sister had put in there over the years. A sudden memory arose in Bryce's mind, making his smile widen. "When I was younger she used to play songs from her phone and dance to them in her room. She always wanted me to join her, but I can't dance to save my life so I mostly just ended up stumbling around and tripping over everything while she laughed at me." Bryce's smile suddenly dimmed. "Of course that was before... y'know."
Liam gave him a look of sympathy. "She sounds like a great sister." Bryce chuckled softly. "She was." Liam read through the songs once again. "Why don't you play one of them?" Bryce looked at Liam and then back at his phone, his face shifting through multiple emotions before he shrugged. "I don't see why not." Bryce hit shuffle and a random song from the playlist started playing through his phone speaker.
Wasted, wasted love.
A wave of nostalgia hit Bryce almost immediately. He knew this song, it was one of her favorites.... She played it in her room all the time....
You had so much to give, for giving me time.
Bryce's expression got increasingly more upset the more he listened to the song. Liam noticed, starting to feel guilty before a thought came to him. Liam moved infront of Bryce, bouncing on the tips of his toes in anxiety.
Darling, had enough.
Liam cleared his throat, getting Bryce's attention. Liam held out his hand toward him a dramatic fashion. "May I have this dance?" It was quiet for a bit before Bryce broke out in a fit of soft laughter. "Seriously?" Liam shrugged, a goofy smile on his face. "Please? I promise not to laugh if you fall." Bryce genuinely contemplated it for a moment before taking Liam's hand.
And now I understand, so put your hands in mine.
"This is so stupid." Bryce muttered as Liam pulled him up off the bed. "Oh hush." Liam held Bryce's hands gently. "It'll be fun I promise."
Baby I will take you far away.
Liam carefully guided Bryce, swaying with the slow music. Bryce awkwardly tried to follow him, almost tripping over his own feet in the process. Liam snickered. "You're too stiff, no wonder you keep wanting to fall over. Just relax a bit, alright?" Bryce nodded, forcefully relaxing his arms and legs.
Don't you know these are our golden days?
Following Liam became a lot easier now. Once he figured Bryce was comfortable Liam gradually started to work his way around the bedroom, Bryce following him every step of the way.
Baby all the other boys, they don't see what I see.
Liam gently moved Bryce's hands into a new position, resting one on his own shoulder while keeping a hold on Bryce's left hand. Bryce looked at him confused before his face turned a soft red. Liam rested his left hand on Bryce's waist, leaving the bottle flustered. He laughed nervously. "What are you doing?" Liam just smiled. "Showing you how to dance properly."
Now won't you say you see it in me.....
Liam pulled him close before slowly spinning to the music. Bryce followed him, walking in a small circle, somehow managing to not trip. Liam grinned. "See? You're getting the hang of it." Bryce's face grew warmer and he looked away, rolling his eyes bashfully.
Ohhhh, Tamarinds and skinny jeans.
Liam suddenly backed away from Bryce as the chorus begun, taking his hand off his waist yet still letting it hover there. Liam held his right hand up high, bringing Bryce's left with him. Bryce stared at him perplexed before being thrown into an unexpected twirl. Bryce spun for a moment before Liam grabbed a hold of him again.
Oh won't you be my summer love?
Bryce stood in a momentary daze, slightly dizzy. Liam giggled at his face and Bryce rolled his eyes again. He kept telling himself this was dumb, but that didn't stop the fuzzy feeling he got from it, and it certainly didn't stop him from grinning like an idiot. They stepped around the room again, spinning with each other. Bryce wouldn't look up from the ground, too embarrassed to look Liam in the eye. "Hey, c'mon now don't look at your feet." They swayed in place now. Bryce hesitantly looked up, meeting Liam's bright, smiling face. "When you dance you're supposed to always look at your partner. You're dancing with me, not your feet." Liam chuckled. Bryce huffed, but kept his eyes on Liam.
Take you walking through the garden.
Liam spun him around once again before stepping away. Leaving them both only connected by an outstretched hand. Liam swiftly pulled him close again, the unexpected momentum sending Bryce into Liam by mistake. They both stumbled before falling onto the bed beside each other, legs dangling into the floor. The song kept playing in the background, but it was silent between the two. Liam snickered, turning his face towards Bryce "Wow, you really are a bad dancer." Bryce scoffed in mock offense. "Oh shut the hell up." He said. It was quiet for a bit before Bryce broke out in a fit of giggles, Liam soon joined him, laughing with him.
And take my heart when summer comes.
