It was like any other Tuesday for me, or so I thought. It started normal, get up, get dressed in jeans, black band shirt, red plaid shirt, and a teal died beanie over my short brown hair, grab my phone, and go to school. But it was eighth hour of class when it started.
I was ecstatic to get home, after all, it was Halloween.
RING!!!
The bell sounded for ninth hour, but then as we were in the hallway, the loudspeaker came on.
"All students, please go to your lockers and pack up your stuff, school will be ending early due to an emergency."
"Huh, wonder what that's about." My best friend Tommy questioned.
"Eh, they probably just want to let us out early because it's Halloween." I replied.
"Probably-" He started, but was interrupted by my other friends, Alexander, and Macie.
"Hi! Gryffin! Tommy! It's Macie and Alexander, over here!"
They are the extroverted ones, and Tommy and I are the introverts. But they are my best friends.
We finished packing up and come over to meet them.
"Hey guys! Ready for the best Halloween EVER?" Macie shouted enthusiastically.
"Pretty much," I slung my messenger bag over my shoulder. "I just gotta make sure everything's ready."
We walked to the busses, and we all got on our bus and I pulled out my phone, plugged my earbuds in, and listened to my favorite spotify playlist. I sorta zoned out until our bus crashed.
I woke up about an hour later, in the remains of the bus. But luckily, we were only about one or two miles away from the school, and being a cross-country runner, I got back easily. I would have gotten there faster than an hour, but I took the other kids with me, plus I had no running gear, and a heavy messenger bag.
Once I got there, I was delighted to find Macie, Alexander, and Tommy hiding in a supply closet.
"What are you doing in a closet?"
"Get in here, quick!"
"Why?"
"No time, get in!"
I called to the other students.
"Guys, get in here. Quick!"
"Alright." They chorused as they filed in.
"Okay, so whats going on?" I asked, puzzled.
"After we left, I realized I forgot my homework, so I went back in to grab it, and Alexander and Tommy went with me as well." Macie explained. "I was at my locker, and I saw Ms.Genera, and said hello, she looked back at me, but her eyes were pure white. . . a-and she-she tried to turn me-me into a. . ."
"Zombie. . ." I whispered almost silently.
"Yes." Tommy replied.
"But then that means, we're in the middle of their hideout. . . " I whispered.
"No shit, Sherlock." One of the fifth graders retorted.
"Oh, shut up!"
Hi! It's me. Please comment if you like the book so far, and if you have any suggestions.
By the way, Gryffin is genderfluid and pan, Tommy is bi, Alexander is gay, and Macie is an ally.
This is what Gryffin looks like (I don't own the art).
