*Ring, ring, ring.*
The sound of my alarm jolted me awake. Groaning, I slapped it off and rubbed my eyes.
"What time is it?" I mumbled, fumbling for my phone.
11:00 AM.
"Oh no!"
I threw off the covers and jumped out of bed, scrambling to get ready. I'd promised Mai I'd meet her at the station by 12:00, and now I was running late.
As I rushed around, pulling on clothes and grabbing my things, my phone buzzed on the bed.
Mai: Y/nnnnnn, you're awake, right? 🙂
I froze. For someone so cheerful, Mai could be oddly scary when it came to timekeeping.
Y/n: Of course! Been up for ages now 😅
Mai: Just don't be late 😒
I sighed, slipping on my shoes. "Why does she care so much about being on time?" I muttered, grabbing my bag and heading out the door.
At the Station
"Mai! Over here!" I called, waving as I spotted her standing near the ticket machines. She turned, her face lighting up with a smile as she ran over.
"Y/n! I'm so excited!" she squealed, grabbing my hands and bouncing on the spot.
"Wow, you really love your cousin, don't you?" I teased, laughing. "What does She like anyway?"
"Um, HE's easy to shop for," she said, brushing off the question. "But I'm not excited about the present—I'm excited about spending the whole day with you!"
I blinked. "Oh, my bad for assuming," I said with a chuckle. "We've spent loads of days together though."
"Stawp, Y/n! Every day with you makes my heart skip a beat," she said dramatically, putting on a mock-adoring expression.
We both burst out laughing, drawing a few curious glances from passersby.
"Alright, come on," I said, catching my breath. "Let's get this present sorted."
She nodded, her face still bright with excitement as we headed into the shopping centre.
Three Hours Later
We'd been wandering the shopping centre for hours, but all Mai had bought so far was snacks. Her bags were filled with crisps, sweets, chocolates, and every other treat imaginable. At first, I didn't question it, but after a while, I couldn't help myself.
"Mai, seriously, aren't you supposed to be buying a present? How much of this stuff is for your cousin?"
"All of it," she said confidently, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
I stared at her, baffled. "This much? There's no way he can eat it all. Won't he get sick of so many snacks?"
She laughed. "You don't know my cousin, Y/n. Trust me—this is perfect."
I decided not to argue. She seemed pretty set on her plan.
"Alright, just a few more shops, and then we can pack everything up," she said, shifting the weight of her bags as we walked.
"Hm," I mumbled, unwrapping a sweet from one of her bags and popping it into my mouth. May as well enjoy the trip, I thought.
"Y/n, what do you think about thi—" Mai's sentence cut off suddenly.
I turned to see her on the floor, surrounded by her fallen bags. A tall figure crouched beside her, gathering up the spilled snacks.
