In a home lab, a hand ripped off the ever flowing sheet of paper as soon as the waves died down, carrying it over to a board with several notes and scientific information gathered and mapped out to a central point: Canterlot High School. The strange phenomenon recorded just a moment ago was pinned up, where a similar sheet with the exact same wavelengths was already up from a few months ago, prior to when the strange energy fluctuations occurred. The teen looked at the board, placing a hand to their chin curiously as they looked over the information gathered ever since the last unexplained event.
"Badminton."
"Not now".
"Badminton."
"No."
"Badminton."
"Spike," A young girl said in a stern tone, turning to look at her adoptive brother, "I'm busy."
"You are always busy, Twilight!" The black-haired boy groaned. "Since you started obsessing over the strange happenings at Canterlot High, we don't spend time together anymore, could you please stop investigating?"
"I can't," Twilight said excitedly, "that weird CHS energy is acting up again. And," Twilight paused as she looked at more of the readouts, "I need to do more research on the events, that began from that night."
"Ugh, whatever, I'll be out," Spike said, leaving the room wearily. "I'll see if I can do something that's fun."
"Yes, yes, okay, have fun." Spike left the room, as Twilight continued her investigation of the strange goings-on at Canterlot High. "There's no doubt about it," Twilight said, her black hair messy with two strands loose at the sides of her face, the rest tied in a bun behind her. She began to put the pieces of this mysterious puzzle together. "Something strange is going on in this school."
Early the next morning, everyone gathered around the front of the school, Twilight and Spike about ready to head back to Equestria. "Too bad you guys can't stay for a while longer."
"Yes, but we have responsibilities in Equestria, and Twilight along with the other girls must protect it," Spike said, and Twilight nodded.
"He's right, my friends and I must keep Equestria safe," the human alicorn said.
As they spoke, Pinkie stuck her head into the portal, only to come out a few seconds latter in a haze. That was one deep vortex.
"And now that we're able to go through the portal at any time, we can come back through whenever we want," Twilight said. "But, I've got duties of my own to take care of back home."
"This isn't goodbye," The alicorn human said sweetly, "It's just goodbye 'til next time."
Twilight nodded her head to Spike, "Ready?"
"Ready!"
And so, with one last movement, the human alicorn and the dragon boy entered the portal and disappeared while their dear friends looked on.
"Now that all the mushy stuff is done, let's get to breaking you in, Sunset!" Dash said. "Principal Thea said that they're putting the Musical Showcase back on for this weekend, and we're going to need all the practice we can get!"
"At least it ain't gonna be a competition this time," Applejack muttered.
Back at CHS, Principal Thea decided that they were going to put the Musical Showcase back on for this weekend, and the Rainbooms began heading off to practice, while the girls got things ready, Sunset began writing in her book, using it to communicate with Twilight and Spike whenever this world needs their help.
"Dear Princess Twilight,
I miss you already and I hope you come back soon, I hope you don't mind receiving any of these messages. I thought this would be a good way to talk to you in case I need some friendship advice or when this world is in danger.
I hope it's not so you can spend some time here that doesn't involve some threat of equestrian magic. I think things will eventually change here at Canterlot High, but we'll see how it goes by then.
Your friend,
Sunset Shimmer."
