Whisperingpaw woke up in the medicine den. She looked around and realized that she was made an apprentice last night. She looked over and saw Beetlepaw sleeping silently. The nest next to him was emty.
She looked for Honeywhisker in the medicine den. She obviously wasn't there. She padded put of the den and saw the clan start to stir. She looked towards the leaders den and found Honeywhisker walking inside.
I shouldn't interrupt her. She thought turning back into the den.
Beetlepaw yanked and stretched. "Morning Whisperingpaw." He said without opening his eyes.
She smiled and layed back down in her nest.
She pricked her ears as she heard a cat come in. She opened her eyes back up and saw Honeywhisker. "Good morning." Her mentor said.
Whisperingpaw got up.
"Ready for your first lesson?"
Whisperingpaw nodded.
"Follow me." Honeywhisker walked out of the medicine den. Whispering- paw followed her mentor across the camp and into the Elder's den.
"First lesson is learning how to properly care for your clanmates.
The three elders started to stir. "Mornin' young-un." Limpear greeted.
Whisperingpaw waved her tail. Good morning.
"We've come to take care of your ticks." Honeywhisker claimed.
"Well you're just in time. I've got one on my neck here that's been bothering me all morning." He craned his neck forward so that Whisperingpaw could see.
The tick was fat and dark.
Honeywhisker placed a wad of moss in front of her. "Use your paws to dab the tick. At all means DO NOT lick your paws afterwards."
Whisperingpaw nodded and picked the moss wad up. She dabbed the tick lightly. As it came loose, she used her claw to gently pry it off the rest of the way.
"Ahhhh. Much better." Limpear exasperated.
Whisperingpaw looked through his fur to seek out more ticks. She found nothing other than a couple of fleas that she immediately killed once spotted.
"Thank you. You did well for your first try." Limpear said.
Whisperingpaw shook her tail in happiness.
"Would you mind checking me too?" Flailnose and Vixenleaf said in unison.
Whisperingpaw brought the moss over and inspected for ticks on the two she-cats.
They both thanked her when she was done and Whisperingpaw went back to the medicine den. She set the moss down and trotted outside to wash her paws.
She stepped put of the camp and trotted to the stream nearby. This was the first time she had ever been outside the camp. The warm breeze carried the scents of rabbit, fresh grass, and morning dew.
Whisperingpaw took a moment to admire the beauty of this new world.
Her eyes fluttered open and she turned back into the camp.
