CHAPTER ONE: Regina

"And that is correct! Another point for NESU!"

The crowd was feeling ecstatic as they cheered loudly for our university. Another point gained by me, of course. I smiled at the crowd as I waved my hand at them, then composed myself for the next question.

I turned my head to look at the girl beside me and gave her a smug smile for proving the correct answer. Previous question was asked if "What is the concentration of this solution in g/dm3 if a 2.0 g sample of sodium chloride is dissolved in water to give a solution of volume 80 cm3.". She argued that the answer would be 0.025 since there is no need to convert 80 cm3 to cubic decimitre, because computing both 2.0 g and 80 cm3 would result to 0.025 dm3, instead.

Well obviously, mali siya, and I just had to prove it to her. Kinuha ko yung whiteboard pad at binura yung mga solutions na sinulat niya, which made her gave me an appalled look. I ignored the remarks and continued writing the new solution, anyway.

It's what most of my batchmates say, Narda Custodio isn't really that smart. Well, for mathematical computations at least. It's what I don't get for people trying to put her up with me. Hindi kami pareho. I will always be number one, at ako lang ang makakapasok sa Arlegui.

Naalala ko pa rin yung first time nakilala ko siya, she was a new student during our junior year.

2 years counting, and I'm still the Top One of our batch. For sure, if I could keep this status for another two years, I will be granted a scholarship at Arlegui State Colleges (ASC), the most prestigious university in Nueva Esperanza. Bihira lang ang makakapasok dito because of the opportunities that they gave to its students, especially after ng grad year, you will be a referral of most, large companies both national and international. And I alone, deserve that scholarship, because no one could ever keep up with the Regina Vanguardia.

Until she came to my life.

"So class, I would like for you all to meet your new classmate," Sabi ni Mrs. Cruz then she ushered the girl to move a little forward.

"Hi, ako po si Narda Custodio. And I'm from Amorsolo National High School at..."

I looked at her and noticed her features. She had straight, black flowy hair that accentuates her tiny face, and her fringe bangs that conceals most of her tiny forehead. Narda then tried to move one of her bangs away from her eyes as she introduces herself to us.

Cute mo.

Wait, the fuck? Where did that come from?

"Miss Vanguardia?" I was back in reality from that irrational thought nung tinawag ako ni Mrs. Cruz.

I cleared my throat and spoke, "Yes, ma'am?" Buti nlng hindi ako nauutal.

"Miss Custodio will be sitting beside you for the rest of the schoolyear. Be sure to make her feel welcomed,"

"Of course, Ma'am."

After junior year, came my worst nightmare, and also made me be at the Top Two spot on the honorary list. Naalala ko pa rin yung time na iyon when I looked at our bulletin board. I could feel my heart racing as I repeatedly read the list over and over. I could hear people around me murmuring but I couldn't quite catch on as to what they were saying. I knew then to myself that all I could hear was...

"OMG, top two na pala si Miss Pabibo. Dasurv!"

"Tignan mo 'te, nagagalit na HAHAHA"

"Come cry to Daddy Rex na naman ito si ate girl,"
