Life was pretty smooth for Celeste these days. Repairing her ship and being a cosmetician kept her pretty busy. One day, she was travelling through the busy Egyptian market when she heard someone whispering. The sounds were eerie and she soon found herself having goosebumps all over the body. Why was she hearing things in the busy market? She stopped to look around herself and everything seemed normal. Nobody was looking as troubled as herself.
She stopped where she was standing and concentrated on the origins of the strange whispers. Without knowing what was happening, her feet started moving on their own. As if they were destined to follow the whispers. Soon, she found herself in front of a large cave like structure. She peeked inside. There was sphere of negative green energy rippled out in a 60-foot-radius sphere from a point within range. Suddenly, she heard voices.
"Is 'Circle of death' ready?" It was a female.
Circle of death? Wasn't that a necromancy spell that cult people used? Was she around a cult? If so, what was their purpose? She didn't have to wait long to know the answer.
"Soon, we'll be able to bring them here."
"The Four Horsemen..."
Before, she could listen more, she was already back in the market. Her feet started moving again. What was happening! Now, she was outside a small dark building with few candles lighting it. Racks of book were the only interesting thing there. Especially one particular book. The cover was almost wrapped in twigs. Slowly, she took the book out.
"Necromancy And The Four Horsemen." The title read. How did she find something that she was searching so easily? For now, Celeste brushed these thoughts and opened the book.
"Necromancy spells manipulated the energies of life and death. Such spells can grant an extra reserve of life force, drain the life energy from another creature, create the undead, or even bring the dead back to life.
Circle of death is a necromancy spell that extinguished the life force of several living creatures in all directions. Originally, this spell was simply called death spell, but it was widely known as circle of death.
Negative energy, appearing as light that is somehow dark, radiated out in a burst as directed by the caster. All touched by this energy could have their life force snuffed out. Every creature in the sphere had a chance to resist the necrotic energies or they suffered serious damage.
This spell had no effect on the undead, lycanthropes, or creatures from planes other than the Prime Material Plane."
An undead? Where was she going to find that now? She started reading ahead.
"Four Horsemen (Pestilence, Famine, War and Death) of the apocalypse."
"The four horsemen of the apocalypse, according to the book of Revelation (6:1-8), appear with the opening of the first four of the seven seals that bring forth the cataclysm of the apocalypse. The first horseman, a conqueror with a bow and crown, rides a white horse, which scholars sometimes interpret to symbolize Christ or the Antichrist. The second horseman is given a great sword and rides a red horse, symbolizing war and bloodshed. The third carries a balance scale, rides a black horse, and symbolizes famine. And the fourth horseman rides a pale horse and is identified as Death.
They were given authority over a quarter of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and plague, and by means of the beasts of the earth."
Are they trying to destroy the world? Celeste was just helping Cleopatra restore Egypt, why did she have to come across a cult who practices necromancy because they want to raise the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse in order to bring ruin and disaster to the world? This wasn't fair. She wanted to ignore it, but her feet had other plans. If they succeed, it'll thrust the world into a state of total anarchy. How will she save the world? Why does she have to be the one to do it?
"Bring Draco, the vampire." The voice called. Before Celeste could think, a light shone above her and a pale guy with sharp fangs was standing before her.
"Are you Draco, the undead?"
"I'm undead-that is to say, having been somehow revived after death. Undead are said to rise nightly from their graves or coffins, often necessarily containing their native soil. I don't think you understand.... So, why did you call me?" Draco explained.
"I didn't. This book did!" Celeste looked down and there was no book or building. They were before the cave.
"I can actually guess what happened here..." Draco looked ahead, already guessing what could've happened.
"Were you always a vampire?" Suddenly, Celeste blurted out.
"Not really. person may become a vampire in a variety of ways, the most common of which is to be bitten by a vampire. Other methods include sorcery, committing suicide, contagion, or having a cat jump over a person's corpse. Mine was the second option. Hurry we don't have much time."
Saying so, Draco jumped inside the cave. There were some frightening voices heard but, everything had already vanished before Celeste could go inside. She saw the fainting Draco, covered in blood with an unknown sadness in his eyes. He didn't want this...
That day she understood that the vampires of Earth were undead, diseased persons who were hated, hunted, and misunderstood by the living. Whether they consider themselves cursed or blessed, or whether they have given into their animalistic instincts or have sought to rid the world of the disease, vampires are nonetheless considered abominations and eccentricities of nature for some.
The vampire was one of the most powerful and feared of all the undead. While they were typically incredibly fast, gifted mages, and unnaturally strong, fear of vampires was abnormally great due to their ability to infect others, a fate often described as worse than death. How she wished, she didn't force Draco...
