Before he was the beast; the wretch that haunts the depths of the Black Keep, Edmund had been the son of the king, and the sole heir to his throne.

His father, King Edward was a feeble man. Generations of blood-mixing had weakened the royal line and the  family's health and virality were known to be in steady decline. In fact, it had taken Edmund's father and mother over a decade to produce an heir, and Edmund had been the result. Their decades long efforts produced no other children, and his mother Queen Lucinda ultimately passed during his own birth. Edmund had been born a sickly child and the doctors of the keep feared he would not survive childhood. However, against all odds, King Edward's sole heir survived.

Considering the great trouble he had gone through to produce his one son, King Edward was most anxious about his son's fertility. He sought to secure his bloodline and needed desperately for his only son to produce an heir of his own. King Edward feared this would be most challenging, however, as his son Edmund bore many signs of infertility. Even now, as a young adult, his son was rather small, unmuscular and had hardly any body hair. Furthermore, the king's doctor's informed him that his son remained poorly endowed in his adulthood. All in all, Prince Edmund was no beacon of masculinity.  As a result, King Edward's anxieties grew. Thus, on Edmund's 20th birthday, his father sought to choose him a wife of exceptional fertility, who would certain be able to birth him an heir.

Young ladies from high families across the kingdom were invited to the Black Keep to stand before their king in consideration for the role of queen-to-be. Hundreds of ladies, of high and low ranking gathered at the castle for the King's consideration. The king also formed a council of doctors which he gathered from across the kingdom, each recognized as experts in fertility and childbirth. This council would advise him in selecting a lady of elevated fertility, likely to birth the Prince an heir.

After a week of consideration, and the examination of over two hundred applicants,  his father and his medical advisors decided that Prince Edmund would be betrothed to the Lady Celia of Hearthstone. Hearthstone was a small house far in the cold north of the kingdom. She was not of particularly high rank, and likely would have been all but overlooked if not for the King's fixation on ensuring the continuity of his bloodline. She had been hand selected for Edmund by King and counsel, for her outward signs of fertility and great beauty. Lady Celia bore every known sign of elevated fertility, the council assured the king. Her bosom was very large and sat firmly upon her soft tummy. Her hips and rear were wide and curvy, perfect for child birth. Her curves were unique in the kingdom, and she was a woman of exceptional beauty. Her skin was clear and soft and she had long locks of brown hair that reached all the way down her back to her bum. The doctors assured King Edward that if Lady Celia did not yield Edmund children, then most likely no woman in the kingdom could.

And so, on his 20th birthday, Prince Edmund Black was wedded to Lady Celia of Hearthstone in a grand ceremony. Representatives from houses across the kingdom were summoned to the Black Keep for the grand celebration. The ceremony was festive and endured into the late hours of the night. As seemingly endless food and drink flowed, so did rumors. Many of the attendees doubted the Prince's ability to produce an heir. As such, throughout the night Lords and Ladies exchanged whispered and chuckled silently to one another about the royal family's apparent decline. Edmund, however, was completely oblivious to his ridicule and was sat next to his new wife. He was awestruck by her beauty and made polite awkward conversation over several courses of dinner. As the night drew on, and the drink flowed he grew more comfortable and formed the opinion that Celia was not only exceptional in her beauty but unique also in her kindness. Edmund was rather happy with the arrangement and it seemed to him as though Celia might be as well. Both parties remained anxious, however, as they knew they would be expected to consummate their marriage later that night; and they knew just how high the stakes were.

In the early hours of the morning, as the last of the guests left for their chambers, or fell asleep at the long tables that filled the hall, two guards approached the prince and his new wife. The time had come. Edmund took his new wife by the hand, and they followed the two guards through the stone halls of the Keep and to his chambers. When they arrived in the hall outside his chambers, Edmund saw a small group of doctors gathered just outside. They watched the couple closely, as they were ushered into the room and the door was closed behind them.

Finally, the newly weds were alone. Well, almost alone, they could still vaguely hear the party of doctors and guards who stood anxiously just outside the chambers.

"I don't think they'll be leaving," said Edmund.

"No, I don't suppose they will," Celia responded, anxiety in her voice.

The two sat down next to each other on the edge of Edmund's bed.

"I'm sorry you were chosen for this," Edmund began, "I know it's a lot of pressure."

"No, it's alright. I never imagined myself..." she paused, "here" she finished, waving around her. "Where I'm from the Black Keep is a place of legend. I never thought I would get to visit, let alone live here. Truly, I'm honored that I'll one day be your queen."

"There's no need to flatter me," responded Edmund, "I know I am no sight to behold, but I do thank you for your kindness."

"I think you are a pleasant sight," Celia responded, a small smile lit her soft face.

Edmund smiled back, but quickly weariness filled his face once more. "You do know, what they're waiting for out there, don't you?"

"Yes. They've prepared me." Celia responded.

"We don't have to if you don't want to-" Edmund began.

"No." Celia stopped him, and put her finger to his lips in a shushing motion.

Edmund immediately felt a pressure below his belt and blood rush into his face.

"Let us consummate our marriage, husband," Celia said, smiling. She stood up and faced Edmund. Then, began to untie her dress.

Edmund was now fully erect, and he watched as his new wife undressed herself. Garments slipped to the floor, one by one, as her nimble fingers worked the many draw strings and buttons of her dress.

Edmund stared at her now naked figure, mouth slightly ajar. She approached him, and removed his shirt. He stood up as well, as she untied the remainder of his clothes as well. The new couple now stood naked in front of one another, breathing heavily.

Celia took his hand and brought him to the bed, where the newly weds consummated their marriage.
