From the day of their not-date on, Xiao Zhan's life changes drastically. He's never been a person who considered himself glued to his phone but lately he doesn't take a step without making sure that it's in his pocket.
Just in case there's a new message from Yibo.
Yang Zi has even started pulling his leg about it whenever the chance arises. Well, Xiao Zhan can't blame her. He does have his phone on the table every time they talk or eat together.
"You guys are texting an awful lot these days", she comments on an evening three weeks after Xiao Zhan met Yibo at the circuit.
It's true. They do. Xiao Zhan even checks his phone between patients now. He's never done that before. But the temptation is just too strong.
It's not like they talk about deep shit stuff. It's mostly just their everyday life and a lot of teasing back and forth, but Xiao Zhan enjoys it a lot. Texting Yibo is easy. And the man is incredibly funny.
"Yeah, we do", he admits with a slight blush on his cheeks. His crush is getting worse, but he doesn't know exactly where they are headed. Or if Yibo is even interested.
"You're going to see him again?"
"Ah, he's out of town at the moment. Filming a commercial at the arse end of nowhere and he has to go to Shanghai after that", Xiao Zhan replies, taking a sip from the tea in front of him.
Yang Zi raises an eyebrow at him. "You also know his schedule awfully well, ZhanZhan".
"No, no it's not like that! He just told me! Like… I told him about my shifts and he told me about his schedule as well".
What else are they supposed to talk about anyway? Okay, true they also share an unhealthy amount of funny memes and sometimes Xiao Zhan even thinks that Yibo is trying to flirt with him, but… probably not.
"Yeah, because I know the working schedules of all of my friends. I can barely remember Xianxian's opening hours, but you know this guy's entire plans for the week", Yang Zi says, sounding unconvinced.
"That's just because I'm more attentive than you", Xiao Zhan retorts, earning himself a kick in the shin under the table.
Still, she does have a point, doesn't she? Xiao Zhan has no idea at what times any of his other friends work. Not even Lulu or Yi-jie.
He also knows a lot about Yibo's habits and interests by now. The guy likes skateboards, LEGO and magic tricks. He can't cook to save his life and is afraid of bugs. Oh, and horror movies.
It's pretty cute, Xiao Zhan thinks.
“In your dreams”, Yang Zi says, pouting. “And you haven’t answered my question yet”.
Xiao Zhan sighs and shakes his head fondly. “I don’t know. I hope we will. It’s a little bit like friendship now”.
“Friendship, eh?”, Yang Zi makes an unconvinced sound in the back of her throat and shakes her head. “You and I, we are friends. And I only know your working schedule because it’s pinned to the fridge!”
“As I said, you’re an airhead”, Xiao Zhan replies, avoiding the real topic. He knows she’s right.
“Don’t try to play me, ZhanZhan. You like this guy and it’s going somewhere”.
Xiao Zhan sighs in defeat. “Maybe. I don’t know and I’m too much of a chicken to ask him. If he really just wants to be friends, I could ruin it all. And… I’d be happy to be friends with him”.
“But you’d be even happier to be a tiny bit more than just friends”, Yang Zi winks and sips from her tea.
“Yeah. You’re probably right. But it’s out of the question. He’s too young for me and even if we both wanted this, Yibo’s schedule is crazy. He doesn’t have time for a relationship”, Xiao Zhan replies, shaking his head.
