As I ran through the front yard being chased by my brother, I tripped over the root of our young maple tree. As I was falling, a breeze came and pushed me just enough to grab onto the nearest branch so I didn't face plant. My brother took advantage of the trip and tagged me.

"Get back here you!" I called playfully, but he just laughed and kept running.

I chased him through the house until he disappeared into the basement.I had always been extremely light on my feet, so I used to my advantage and snuck down into the basement and crept around the corner. I heard him quietly giggling to himself. I located his position and whispered "Boo!" in his ear. He jumped and let out a small yelp.

"I can't ever find the perfect hiding place!" he told me.

"Well John, it might help if you learned to keep quiet."

"Kaelyn!" my foster mother called.

"Yes ma'am!" I said.

"Your father and I need to speak with you." she answered.

I ran upstairs to the living room. I noticed my mom was holding an orange and purple envelope. Both of them had excitement, joy, and pride radiating through their eyes. I also noticed a small shadow of sadness.

"Kaelyn," my foster father said,"you have been accepted at Ms. Taylor's School for Intelligent Girls."

The word shocked was the biggest understatement for how I felt at that moment. Ms. Taylor hand-picked 15 girls each year to attend her school. This was the best school I could get accepted into.

"You need to leave tomorrow morning, so go pack." my foster mother said.

---------- 5 minutes later-------

"John, listen to me." I told him.

He was hanging upside down over the top bunk.

" I am listening." he retorted, though I didn't believe him.

"I am going away for a while." I said sadly.

"What?!" he exclaimed. I knew that would get his attention.

" I'm going to a school far away from here."

"Why?" he asked.

"It is a very special school that few people get invited to, but I will hopefully still see you over the holidays."

"But I don't want you to go!" he whined.

"You'll be okay. You still have Kole to play with. Right?"

"Yeah." he mumbled.

"I love you Kaelyn!"he exclaimed as he ran to give me a hug.

"I love you too John."

--------------The Next Morning-------------

"Bye Kaelyn!" John exclaimed. He had tears running down his cheeks, so I whipped them away.

"Don't cry John. I will see you again." I told him.

Then I gave him, mom, and dad each a great bear hug.

"I love you!" I yelled as I ran into the airport.

Security gave me funny looks because I was by myself, but they never said anything. I found my gate and boarded the plane.

----------3 hours later-------

As I got of the plane, a man in a black suit walked up to me.

"Hello Kaelyn. I will be your escort to TSIG." he said.

Then he took my bags to the trunk of a limousine. He opened the door for me. We drove to a different section of the airport. There I saw another girl my age waiting for her ride. She was thin and about average height with poker straight hair. Her eyes where the prettiest brown, and when the light hit them right, they seemed to glow orange. The driver greeted her similar to the way he greeted me. She stepped in.

"Hi." she said.

"Hi." I replied quietly.
