"So, who's the lucky person?" The Farmer looked up with wide eyes, freezing for a moment. Pierre leaned forward on the counter, eyebrows raised in curiosity. After a few moments, he stood up straight, shaking his head.

"Sorry. None of my business," he chuckled, waving it off. "That'll be 200g, please." The Farmer pushed the money across the counter, quickly grabbing the bouquet and running out of the general store. They felt like all eyes were on them, as if the bouquet was a huge neon sign saying "look at me!". The Farmer's cheeks reddened, and only partially from the biting Fall weather.

Deciding to make a run for it, the Farmer cradled the bouquet close to their chest, boots pounding against the cobbled sidewalk and up through the dirt paths. They approached the mountain house, slowing their pace.

The Farmer sucked in a breath, rolling their bottom lip between their teeth anxiously. They didn't expect it to be easy, but this was so much more difficult than they thought.

The Farmer had been flirting with Sebastian since they arrived in Pelican Town, and today would be the day that they finally made it official.

As long as the Farmer could work up the courage to actually give Sebastian the bouquet.

Huffing, the Farmer walked toward the lake, sitting at the edge of the water. Small ripples ran across the surface of the lake, muddling their reflection. They sighed, shoulders slumping as the bouquet dropped into their lap defeatedly.

"Oh, hello." The Farmer jolted, turning around with wide eyes. Standing a few steps behind them was Linus, looking concerned. The Farmer forced a smile, nodding at the older man before turning back to the water.

"Sorry... but are you okay?" Linus questioned gently. The Farmer sighed, looking back up at him. Linus' gaze went down toward the bouquet on the Farmer's lap, eyebrows raising.

"Ah," he murmured, nodding. "I see. It's for the boy with the motorcycle, yes?" The Farmer's eyes widened, lips parted in surprise. Linus chuckled, nodding. "I've seen the way he looks at you. You have nothing to worry about, my young friend." Linus offered a hand, and the Farmer accepted it with a grateful smile.

"Thank you." They let out a soft sigh, nodding determinedly. Linus laughed good-heartedly, lightly slapping the Farmer on the shoulder.

"Go on. He will certainly say yes," the older man encouraged. The Farmer smiled, nodding at Linus before running off to the mountain home.

It was mid-afternoon, rapidly approaching sunset. The Farmer hid the bouquet in their backpack, careful not to wrinkle or otherwise damage it. Taking a deep breath, they pushed open the door, stepping inside the mountain home. Robin wasn't behind the counter; it was far too late in the day for her to be on the clock. However, Maru and Demetrius were both hanging out in the lab space across the hall.

Maru was the first to notice the Farmer. "Hey!" She exclaimed cheerfully, waving. She wiped her hands on her overalls, grinning at the Farmer. "Are you looking for Sebastian?" Maru questioned. The Farmer nodded, swallowing thickly. Demetrius turned around, raising an eyebrow.

"Pretty sure he's not here," Demetrius commented, shrugging. Maru looked back at her dad, nodding.

"Yeah. I saw him leave earlier today. I would check Sam's house," she suggested. The Farmer nodded, smiling nervously. They waved awkwardly, running out of the mountain house with a huffy sigh.

The Farmer leaned against the side panels of the house, letting themself slide down until they were sitting in the dirt. Sebastian would come back eventually... they could wait for him.

An hour passed, and there was still no sign of the dark-haired boy. The Farmer was getting restless just waiting, so they decided to head over to the lake to fish for a bit. Just while they were waiting for Seb to return.

It was getting dark out, and the Farmer was beginning to feel tired. If Sebastian didn't come back soon, they would have to give up for the day and ask him another time. The thought was disheartening, and the Farmer sat in the grass, hugging their knees. This wasn't going the way they had hoped.

"Hey. What's up?" The Farmer's head shot up. They knew that voice...

"Seb?" They questioned, searching for the dark-haired man. The sun had set, so Sebastian blended in with the darkness, but the Farmer was still able to spot him.

"Yeah. What're you doing here so late?" He wondered, sitting down in the grass next to the Farmer and taking a hit of his cigarette.

"Ah..." The Farmer chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of their neck. "Just... sitting." They mentally slapped themself for that one. Real smooth...

Sebastian gave the Farmer a curious look, snorting softly. He took another puff of his cigarette, blowing out a stream of smoke. "...Guess I'll sit with ya, then. If you don't mind..." The Farmer just hummed in response.

Sebastian sat beside them, sighing. The Farmer nervously averted their gaze, fingers fidgeting as they stared out over the mountain lake.

"So... what are you really doing here?" Sebastian questioned, tilting his head and taking a puff of his cigarette. He blew the smoke out slowly, catching the Farmer's eye. "You never come here for no reason."

The Farmer scoffed. "Well, why can't I just be here to enjoy the evening?" They retorted. "Maybe I came here to relax!" Sebastian shook his head slowly, chuckling.

"Yeah?" He raised an eyebrow, smirking. "You seem real relaxed." Sebastian's voice was dripping with sarcasm, and his expression conveyed the exact same disbelief as his tone. The Farmer huffed, shaking their head.

"Fine. Say I came here for a reason." They straightened their posture, leaning back slightly to meet Sebastian's gaze. "Does it really matter?"

"I suppose not," Seb hummed, taking a last drag of his cigarette before putting it out in the grass. He let out a soft sigh, hints of smoke wafting off his breath. "I am glad you're here, though."

"Yeah?" The Farmer rose their eyebrows.

"Yeah."

"I..." The Farmer hesitated, sighing. "I'm glad you're here too," they admitted. Sebastian glanced in the Farmer's direction, a smile dancing on his lips.

"Thanks," he murmured, blush hidden by the dim lighting.

"Actually, I..." The Farmer swallowed thickly, reaching for their backpack. "I wanted to ask you something..." Sebastian's brow quirked with interest, a small smirk sliding across his features.

"So I was right about you having a reason to be here?" He asked, clearly already aware of the answer. The Farmer rolled their eyes with a smile, shaking their head in mock annoyance.

"Just..." The Farmer took a deep breath, gently pulling the bouquet out of their backpack and presenting it to Sebastian. For a few agonizing seconds, there was only the faint sound of chirping crickets between them.

"...You want to get more serious?" Sebastian asked softly, eyes wide as they met the Farmer's anxious gaze. Seb carefully took the bouquet, fingertips brushing along a fragile flower petal. He smiled, a real, genuine smile.

"I feel the same way."

The Farmer grinned, eyes crinkling. Their chest swelled with excitement as they realized what this meant...

This was the start of something new.
