The Farmer walked through the darkness, making their way along the mountain path. Their boyfriend, Sebastian, lived in a house up in the mountains, and the Farmer was making an impromptu visit... at midnight. Sebastian would still be awake, but the rest of his household would not, meaning stealth was a necessity.
The Farmer shivered as the wind blew, the biting chill of late Fall hitting them as they snuck around the house. A quick tap on Sebastian's basement window brought their boyfriend up the stairs and to the doorway, looking bleary and confused.
"What are you doing here so late?" Sebastian hissed, voice no louder than a whisper. "Everyone's asleep!"
"I wanted to see you," the Farmer replied, smiling sheepishly at their boyfriend. Sebastian's expression softened, cheeks turning pink under the porch light.
"...Okay. Follow me, and be quiet." Sebastian led the Farmer into the house, closing the door behind them. They went down to Sebastian's room– closing that door as well– and Sebastian turned off his computer. The light faded in the room, the Farmer barely making out Sebastian's figure as he held up a hand as if to say "wait."
A soft click, and the room lit up once again. This time, rather from a computer screen, it was from what looked like a string of Spirit's Eve lights, basking the room in a soft purple glow.
Sebastian turned back to the Farmer, grinning shyly. He'd been doing that a lot more since they got together. "Do you like it?" He wondered.
The Farmer nodded. "It's pretty." Their gaze slid from the lights to their boyfriend. "You're pretty."
Sebastian blushed, flustered by the compliment. "I- well- you-" he stammered, closing his eyes with a soft groan of embarrassment. "You, um, you look really nice too..." The Farmer chuckled, shoulders shaking with quiet laughter.
The Farmer stepped toward Sebastian, capturing the dark-haired man in a hug. Sebastian stumbled for a moment before wrapping his arms around his partner, smiling. The Farmer leaned their head back, pressing their forehead against Sebastian's. It was slightly awkward due to the height difference between them, but they managed.
"It's nice to have you here," Sebastian murmured, eyes fluttering shut as he spoke. "I've never had someone randomly visit me in the middle of the night. It feels special."
The Farmer hummed in response, moving their head slightly so their noses brushed together. Sebastian's breath hitched, but he didn't pull away. They slowly leaned in closer, the Farmer's eyes shutting as well as their lips met in a gentle kiss, the softness matching the vibe of the night.
They pulled away after a few long moments, the Farmer lazily trailing a few kisses down Sebastian's jawline and neck.
"Should we..." He breathed in sharply as the Farmer's lips brushed over sensitive skin. "Is this...?" The question hung in the air for a moment as the Farmer's lips ghosted away from pale skin.
They shook their head, pulling away and grabbing Sebastian's hand to lead him to the bed. "Not tonight. Someday." Sebastian just nodded, letting his partner lead him to bed. His anxiety had been quelled slightly at the confirmation that this would just be a night of cuddles, but his heart still raced at the thought of the two of them sharing the night.
The Farmer snuck into bed first, Sebastian following immediately after. The Farmer laid with their back against the wall, Sebastian beside them. They faced each other, soft gazes exchanged for several long moments before the Farmer wrapped their arms around Sebastian, tugging him closer. Their bodies almost seemed to melt together, legs tangled in the sheets. It was difficult to tell where the Farmer ended and Sebastian began, especially in the low purple light.
"Blanket?" Sebastian asked softly. The Farmer nodded, both of them reaching to pull Sebastian's fluffy blanket over them.
The Farmer sighed softly, closing their eyes. The night was peaceful, contented breaths the only discernible sound in the room. Sebastian hummed contentedly, running a hand through the Farmer's hair. Up close, he could smell the gentle scent of their shampoo, mixing pleasantly with the smoky smell that seemed to cling to Sebastian's clothes.
"Hey," he whispered, watching as the Farmer cracked an eye open, looking at him expectantly. "My mom's gonna freak when she sees you spent the night here."
The Farmer grinned, snickering. "Your mom likes me. You know how much she approves of us," they reminded.
"True." Sebastian nodded, a quiet hum of agreement escaping his throat. "She's been supportive. Maybe too supportive." He wrinkled his nose, and the Farmer chuckled.
"Our number one fan," they added, giggling. "It's sweet that she supports us so much."
"Yeah, I know. It's just... a little suffocating sometimes." Sebastian sighed. "The other day she asked me when the wedding was."
"Seriously?" The Farmer asked, raising their eyebrows. "We've been together for, what, a month? Almost two?" Sebastian nodded to confirm. "That feels rushed..."
"I agree."
"Don't worry, I'm not going to propose to you yet," the Farmer replied. "Maybe someday..." Sebastian let out a soft noise of surprise.
"Oh my god, don't– I mean, well, do, but not... not..."
The Farmer kissed the tip of Sebastian's nose, giggling. "Don't worry about it. We've got all the time in the world. Why rush?" The dark-haired man let out a soft breath, nodding.
"Yeah," he agreed. "No need to rush things."
"Besides, I like taking things slow with you," the Farmer added. "Gives us more time to savor the little moments." Sebastian let out a soft breath, smiling at the Farmer.
"I like that," he murmured.
"Me too." The Farmer paused for a moment. "Do you really think she'll freak out?"
Sebastian shrugged. "She'll be surprised. Then she'll say something embarrassing, probably."
The Farmer grinned, pulling out their best Robin impression. "I hope you two used protection!" Sebastian groaned, covering his face. The Farmer laughed softly. "Like that?"
"Yep. Probably." He pointed to his desk, sighing. "She bought a box of condoms when she found out about us. It's been in my desk drawer ever since."
The Farmer covered their mouth as they laughed, trying to muffle the sound so they wouldn't wake up any of Sebastian's household. The dark-haired man grumbled under his breath, a smile giving him away.
"Shhh," he shushed, trying to keep the Farmer quiet. The giggles eventually slowed to a stop, leaving only a teasing grin. They kissed Sebastian, holding for several seconds before pulling away, soft breaths hanging in the air.
"I'm really happy with you," Sebastian admitted, voice barely audible. The Farmer's grin grew wider, eyes crinkling joyfully.
"I'm happy with you too," they replied, pressing their forehead against Sebastian's. "And I can't wait for our future."
"Yeah," Sebastian agreed. "Me neither."
