It's been three days, and I am exhausted. After that phone call, Michael and I decided to immediately fly to Staten Island to finish the order with the Edevanes. We worked side-by-side to guarantee that our customers does not get hold of the mess we are in.While I meet with other government organizations, Michael is supervising the order for Edevanes. They've been silent, which should be a relief. But knowing Ethan, this is not how he plays his game.
He is well known to attack and destroy. I remember getting hold of a story a year ago. Ethan happen to catch a snitch within their clan and the boy was beaten to death. His family also went missing after a few hours. Sources disclosed that he crossed Ethan for disrespecting him. No one knows what truly happened, but no one has seen him nor the family since then.
I understand that there should be a degree of respect especially with the world that we live in, but going after your clan's families are insensible. There are children's lives at stake and those should be untouched.
On top of worrying about the Edevanes, I'm also keeping an eye on any news regarding the Rochess Jewelry should the inspector trace it back to us. A few of our men involved in the chase are already retrieved, while some are still seeking isolation with their dispatchers. I decided to not have them travel to minimize activities.
As for those who are dead, we know that we can no longer retrieve their bodies. It is the sacrifice everyone knew when they joined us. We offer them the quality of life, but it comes at a painful cost.
No one is ever forced, which I take pride on. But what we do here is more than money and luxury, we stick together for protection and security. Some of our workers are sexually trafficked men and women or incarcerated men. Because the system failed them, they decided to take on a vendetta to exploit it.
It's been a whirlwind, and I haven't been getting enough rest. There's still so much planning and executing to do that I've noticed a few changes in my sleeping habits, I only get a few hours of sleep before relaying on coffees and lattes to keep me up. I am not physically tired, but having to constantly think keeps my brain fried.
Just like today, we are now meeting with the Edevanes, which is all I've been preparing for.
"Its time." Michael whispered.
It's a rare occurrence to make a big deal out of a shipment, but Michael mentioned how dangerous it is to let our team independently make the exchange. He believes that we are still not forgiven. So, it would be best to personally see to it that there will be no hiccups along the way.
Diego also pointed out that it would be a great opportunity for us to check if there's a mole in our clan. I first refused to believe it because we've just lost a couple of our guys, and losing more would mean that there's something wrong with our leadership. Some are still traumatized which would take a lot of time. Thinking about the idea of someone betraying us is makes me wanna puke. I only agreed on the grounds that they would let me handle the situation should we cross that bridge.
Part of our plan to appease the Edevanes is to let the Baron appear before them so we could signal our strength. If we show the Edevanes that we are serious about fixing the problem and delivering our promises, then we would no longer have to face the wrath of the Edevanes.
Michael was first against the idea of letting me finally reveal myself because it would put us more to danger if men knew that our clan is led by a woman. As much as it pains him to say it, this is the reality. I would be easily overlooked by these dons. And maintaining their respect is a key ingredient why there's no threats coming from their side. So, he said he'd continue playing the Baron's identity. It's not my first rodeo. Besides, we were born to be in the mafia, Olivia.
