I walked to the entrance of the school, my bag slung on my back and Star by my side. They were talking about something, but I had to admit, I wasn't listening. I was busy thinking about something else. Someone else.
God, why do I keep thinking about yesterday and everything that happened with him? Everything about him makes me feel like a schoolgirl having a crush on a hot guy. Well he is hot- what, no he is not hot or pretty or any other word that describes him in that way. He. Is. Not. Attractive.
"Zac, stop spacing out. God you have been doing that since- Oh," Star states. While stopping, which I didn't notice, and continued walking to the bag area.
"Star, I don't like-," I start to say before I crash into something or someone, hard. I look up to see what I crashed into, and in my horror I find out it's Oliver and his Christian saint group AKA the homophobic group.
"Watch where your going, dumb twat!" Oliver curses and pushes me to the ground. Oh, if the teachers could see them now, they would probably give them a talk or some bullshit thing about not pick on student.
"I saw you lovey-dovey with the new student, what's his name? Starburst?" He asks while using his new height as an advantage to make me feel intimidated.
His awful friends laughed at his words as they start to make a circle around me and start to say more mean things about me, Starburst and Starbucks.
"Hey, stop it he did nothing wrong, leave him alone," I hear Star say as they start to shove them to try and grab me.
I see one of Oliver's goons grab them by the arms and start to whisper things in their ear. I see a terrified expression go across their face as they stop struggling. The goon let them go and walked towards Oliver and high-fived him.
"Did what you told me to do and SHE went away." The goon, who I now realised is Sam. Bloody fucker, how dare he get their pronouns wrong.
"It's they, you dumbass, not she!" I yell, trying to cause a bigger scene than it is. I start to get up, and as I do, Sam kicks me in the shins causing me to fall flat on my face. I feel my crimson blood exit out of my nose and onto the concrete floor. Another one of goons pulls my face up to meet Oliver's ocean blue eyes that are swimming with hate and resentment. No kindness or love that he shows to the teachers when getting A's in their classes.
His goons pull me by my uniform shirt to behind the school's PE hall and push me against the wall. Caging me in, one goon are on either side of me and Oliver in front of me. They make kneel in front of Oliver so he can get a full view of my now bleeding face.
"You know it didn't need to be this way. We could have been friends if you chose not be in love with that person in year 6," Oliver tells me. He punches me in the face several times, over and over again till his hands are covered in my blood.
"Let's go before the teachers find out it was us," I hear Sam say. Wow so he does have a brain of his own.
"Yeah, let's go, just after I do this." Oliver agrees with Sam. Oliver grabs my face, laughing, and is about to shin it again, but I hear a voice that sounds very familiar yell something I didn't quite catch.
I couldn't figure out who it was or anything really; all my thoughts had stopped and I felt like wasn't even there anymore. My vision starts to become blurry and my hands are becoming clammy. I see a blurry image of a person with rainbow hair.
"Starburst?" I ask before I pass out.
When I wake up again, I see the ceiling of the sick bay of the school. I go to try and get up to see if I was alive but realise a heavy weight on my stomach. I look down to see rainbow hair and the beautiful face of Starburst. The next thing I see is two purple pupils swimming with so many emotions but the ones I caught the fastest was concern and worry.
He takes his head off of my stomach. "I thought you were never going to wake up, I would be alone again." The last part came in a mumble but I caught it. His eyes are welding up in tears, and he starts to sniffle so those tears don't come out.
"Hey, no need to cry, okay? I'm going to be fine this happens all the time, you don't need to worry," I tell him while sitting up, so I can see him properly and the room too. He wiped his tears away quickly, sniffing and covering his face with his hands. He mumbled something but I didn't hear him. I blinked hard, rubbing my eyes and flinching from the pain. Starburst took his hands away from his face, putting them on mine, his face now pouring with tears. He placed my hand on his cheek, staring deep into my eyes, his breath shaky but quick.
"Areyouinanypain? Doyouneedmedicine? Whatdoyouneedmetodo? Doyouwantmetotakeyouhome? Icouldtakeyoutomyhouse, my, uh, parentsaren'thomerightnow! Youcanstealmyfoodorwhatever- ornot! Youdowhatyouwant! CanIhelpyou? Doyouwantmetoleaveyoualone? Youprobablydo. I'msorry, I'll leave!" Starburst was speaking so quickly, I didn't catch any of it except for the end. He got up, ready to leave, but I grabbed his wrist before he could go.
"I don't want you to leave. Please," I told him, which made him instantly drop down back to the ground. "You need to calm down, I'm going to be fine. Probably," I mumbled the last bit. I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to puke, faint or straight out die. I smiled at him, trying to be reassuring. I wasn't sure why he was so worried. He barely knew me.
