I have never been great at making menu selections, RJ knew this perfectly well. Yet even with this knowledge, he still always insisted that we go to new restaurants.
I flipped open my menu and made a quick selection, RJ was all ready to order.
My mind wandered aimlessly. Initially I took in the bright decorations outlining the walls, then my gaze fell onto my boyfriend.
He sat tapping his fingers in a steady rhythm on the edge of the table, his eyes affixed on the other side of the room.
Taking in his beauty I sighed contentedly.
I don't think there were words to express my love and gratitude for my best friend. He was just a huge part of my life and the thought of him ever being absent from it was the definition of foreign.
We talked about the future in incredible detail. It was almost too easy to get lost in my thoughts of our eventual future together.
While RJ and I never fully decided on what colleges we hoped to attend, we still had pretty solidified plans regarding the future.
While he was an incredible guitarist, he never wanted it to exceed being a hobby. His mother Juniper on the other hand thought he was crazy for not thinking of turning his hobby into a career.
I can't say I disagreed with her, RJ was a fantastic musician. He knew he wanted to pursue a college education. He just wasn't sure what to major in.
I was pulled from my thoughts by white paper pelting my skin.
Looking up to see the waiter was patiently awaiting my order and my not-so-patient boyfriend was on the other end of the table throwing balled up paper at me from his neglected straw wrapper.
Do. You. Mind?!" I screeched in a hushed tone, glaring daggers at RJ.
Ignoring his response, I turned to the waiter, my face flushing red.
"Sorry".
"Don't worry about it" she said chuckling as she waved a hand dismissively.
"I am Britt - What can I get you guys tonight?"
I studied her for a brief moment as we ordered.
She couldn't have been much older than her mid twenties.
Blondish brunette hair was tied back in a tight pony tail and she had immaculately clear skin and well-manicured hands. I was jealous.
She placed two clear glasses on the table as well as a basket of steaming rolls.
I thanked her as she smiled and walked away to relay our orders.
I reached for the center of the table and grabbed a roll.
I locked eyes with RJ as I tore a tiny piece off the roll and threw it at him.
"You did not just assault me with bread!"
He said in mock-exasperation, placing a hand over his heart as if he were wounded by my gesture.
"Oh but I did" I said leaning back in sheer amusement, crossing my arms over my chest triumphantly.
RJ quickly grabbed a roll of his own as he threw a piece of it at me.
Dodging it with ease, I smirked at him.
"Good shot".
He grumbled incoherent swears as he kept chucking bread at me. He missed every time.
